And a football game broke out. Har Har Har.

I was at my first Mississippi State football game last night, and it was a blast. SEC tailgating is on a whole different level from the ACC. Doesn't make it better, just different on another level. For one people are a big big fan of liquor. I rarely saw anyone LSU or MSU with a beer.

Everyone is rather nice, and LSU fans aren't so bad. However I don't think they can count. I was harassing one guy on the way in and telling them off on how they are "overrated." The gent promptly held up his index finger, #1, and I asked, don't you mean #2? Good times.

Anyway I wanted to draw attention to something I bet all you Wolfpackers back home would appreciate.

As the game was getting under way and kick off was imminent, the "Go State, Hail State!" cheer was the call. It came naturally to give it my all.

"Come On State!!

...Let's Go PACK!!"

And every person around me was thinking, whats this guys problem?

It was then that I realized no matter where you go, once you cheer for the Wolfpack, you've changed your life forever. And that is a damn good feeling.

So how does Davis-Wade Stadium compare to Carter-Finley? How does MSU compare to NCSU (campus, town, main drag by the school, people, etc.)

Davis Wade itself does not compare in any way with the new Carter Finley. CF is by far a top notch stadium. I hope to travel to other SEC lands while I'm out here, but we'll see. You can see the effort and dedication NC State is putting in its football and basketball and baseball programs with the new additions. I mean I took it all for granted then, but now I'm just in awe of what we did there. Even my UNC girlfriend thought the same.

Davis Wade does have a brand new field house which is coupled with an immense grassy tailgating section called the Junction. All you see is a see of Maroon and White tents. Nothing else but that and the stadium. So the campus is crowded on gameday, with DW in the smack middle of the place. And nobody drives, they just tow their pigs in tractors, so I'm used to it. But on gameday it was a great thing to be a part of. I'll be going to every game.

Tho there is NO place for student parking if you a) don't want to pay and live off campus b) want to tailgate. So I assume most kids tailgate in the dorms and meet Ma an' Pa or whoever at the Junction. Just really different than at Carter Finley.

MSU is nothing like NC State. Its like Duke or UNC without having Raleigh right next door, or people with LOTS OF MONEY. The town of Starkville equals the student pop. at 17,000. The town has a small yet decent main drag directly from the Campus into its Old Main St. Plenty of name brand restaurants, small time local spots and shops, but no main retail or mall. But it gets the job done everyday.

The people are great. Mostly everyone I've met personally have welcomed me graciously. I think its b/c of the culture and b/c they really really know they can have a great thing here if they work hard with MSU to grow smart. I talked to one guy from the county at a local hamburger joint (old guy motorcycle T-shirt) and told him I was from NYC went to NC State, and he said "We're glad you're here son."

The food is great. And freaking cheap. Along with above story, I ordered a Double Cheeseburger meal for about $8 and got 2 half pound patties the size of my hand and 1/2 pound of fries (of course free tea). Even the Mexican is cheap by cheap standards. Most lunch specials are at $4. And the regal restaurants are very well to do and busy with us older kids on the weekends, which is cool for a college town. Not like Sammys

As for the Campus itself, its small but a good size for the University. MSU just hit 17,000 students fulltime. Think about it. What is NC State, 30,000? I mean its a big change, but the attitude isn't. Its very much like State's campus too, with large open spaces, a ton of brick work, and a vet school. However they have the best fucking bookstore ever. Barnes and Nobles has been contracted to run it for them and let me tell you, every freaking college bookstore should do this. There's parking!, and you're not crammed in some basement looking for books on top of everyone else, but in a professionally run store. Also they are redo-ing their Union like UNC's. Contracted by the same people too I heard.

Saying all this I would gladly pick NC State for my under grad again (grad school if they had a more seductive program). Nothing beats having your rivals 30 minutes away, a beautiful major city downtown, a fabled history, and a big atmosphere. However MSU does have its charm, and if I was from Mississippi, I would choose here over anything else in a heartbeat.

So all in all, you can never go wrong with a State. I think its impossible. Unless its Florida. And then I suggest you move back to NJ.

That's an awesome read! You've got to let us know how the games are at other SEC stadiums if and when you go.
