Based on one of his short stories from the book Skeleton Dreams (the one with the monkey on the cover). Fucking awesome, probably my favorites. Hope it's good.

The movie will be good until towards the end, when we find out that whatever was behind whatever was going on was a giant spider, giant bats, or stupid aliens

From what I remember in the book, it was mostly tentacle rape, giant bugs, and a big crab dude that cut a guy in half.

I watched it last night, it was pretty close to the story. btw the book is Skeleton Crew, not Skeleton Dreams

I was very surprised by the ending.

I thought that the movie was going to attempt to build suspense around what the mist was all about and what it could possibly mean... then they showed everything on the TV commercials.

I guess they went for a different angle in the actual movie, or are they counting on people not having seen the commercials?

SPOILER .....

I was a little disappointed by the ending, because it meant that the people at the grocery store did the right thing by staying put. I like the story's ending (they are able to get gas for the car, hear the word "Hartford" on the radio and are heading there in hopes it'll be better) because it shows they did the right thing by setting out on the road.

end spoiler

A) pretty awful movie
B) the very ending being "fucked up" doesn't excuse the main plots ending of sucking ass
c) no suspense or scary moments

******spoilerish******

d) Simpsons, South Park, .....Stargate did it...

******end spoiler*****

I thought this movie was a big let down. Even the special effects looked cheap. The only interesting /creepy parts had to do with the overly religious whore

^completely fucking agree

A) pretty awful movie
B) the very ending being "fucked up" doesn't excuse the main plots ending of sucking ass
c) no suspense or scary moments

The special effects were horrible as well. Only scary parts were cheap jump stuff.

spoiler-------

the best part was where the religious "mrs. gary" was shot. i was hoping that someone in the crowd would've gotten into a religious debate with her like kids around NCSU do

end spoiler---------

did anybody notice the Stephen King references

one of David's posters is from the Dark Tower and Mrs Carmady saying "My life for you," I think is a reference to The Stand

Good call, except you find about the giant spiders, giant bugs, giant octupusses, etc. in the middle instead of the end.

I actually thought it was a good movie until the end. When he did what he did and then the tank showed up I was just like "too easy" and I rolled my eyes. King could have thought of a better ending to such a good movie.

I can see how it would be a bad movie if you wanted to see a monster movie. For me it was more about the character interactions. I could really see the situation playing out in real life as it did on the screen.

King wrote the short story "The Mist." For the most part, King really isn't too involved when a studio wants to make a movie out of one of his stories. Just pointing it out so he's not the one to blame for the studio ending.

Actually, Stephen King said he loved the modified ending and that he would've used it if he'd thought of it while writing the story.

^ the movie matches the story very well except for the ending

yeah i did not really dig it... i think the phrase "too easy" really sums up the ending for me. I just feel like I've seen it before... And that kind of shock value just didn't get to me. I can see why some peope like it... but I would say it is worth the 1.50 theatre and thats it. I would of liked a much more in depth explanation and view of the "mist" dimension.
