I keep forgetting to rank teams by NBA-ready talent on the roster. I bet that'll be more accurate than Vitale's ranking.

Kansas Georgetown or even Memphis should be #1...UNC should be somewhere near #10
we should easily be top 25 though
I see Duke being too high as well, more near 20 for them. 9/4/2007 10:38:35 PM |

Well, being ranked 35 usually means you're in the NCAA tournament so I'll take it. Baby steps. We still have questions at PG, the most important position on the court. Until that is answered, I'd say right outside of the top 25 is about right for us. 9/4/2007 10:47:11 PM |

he has Duke at 12 or 13? How in the hell does a team lose their only legitimate big man (if he could even be called that) in McRoberts and still crack the top 15? That's stupid. Everyone is sucking Kyle Singler's cock, but I was mucho unimpressed with his performance in the McDonald's all American game. I just don't see how this Jon Scheyer/Mike Dunleavy Version 2.0 is supposed to make a mediocre team from last year a whole lot better. That bitch better not miss on any of those threes he takes because there won't be anyone there to grab the rebound if he does. 9/5/2007 3:08:50 AM |

Yeah, I really don't see how he has Duke at 12, Clemson at 20, and UVA higher than us.
Carolina should be top 5 easy, and you could make the case for #1. I'm fine with that I guess. But Duke, as mentioned by EVERYONE, doesn't have any big men. You can't win without an inside game, just like you can't win without a PG.
Clemson has a deep, talented club, but will fail. Why? When have they not failed...
UVA is about right, but shouldn't be higher than us for sure. Singletary will burn it up this year (ACC POY contention with Hansborough)...
But we're not going to be chopped liver either.
Of the ACC teams, I'd rank them like this:
2. North Carolina 20. Duke 25. Clemson 27. NCSU 31. UVA 9/5/2007 12:27:01 PM |

haha, Clemson bball as a preseason top 25? ugh, let's not crazy now. I'd love to see them in the real tourney this year but I believe Dickie might be getting carried away here. I believe Clemson has the ability to be a mid-20 but I wouldn't start them out there.

I think Oliver is doing great things with the program I just really don't like these preseason rankings. I'm always scarred young kids see their rankings and feel like they don't need to bring there A-game against certain teams. And with the Clemson program being so dismal since Barnes I want to see them work there into the rankings with decent ACC play.

You must not follow sports very much.
Dickie V has been one of the biggest proponents of NC State as well. I agree he really gobbles the UNC/Duke cock overly so, but don't act like he doesn't give NC State any respect.
And I disagree with this poll in that the other ACC teams are way too high (except Carolina). 9/6/2007 10:35:42 AM |

What are you talking about? post of the year right there. A team with a 7'1 returner has no big men.
duke has plenty of big men...
2 returning that have started AND kyle singler. Duke is also loaded at guard. paulus, scheyer, henderson(flatout star), nolan smith, pocius then king as well.
and ncstate...Top 10 talent. Its amazing that none of the basketball experts realize that the only things that kept this team from losing a number of games in the single digits were lack of depth and nobody anyone close to being able to play pg. Even when Atsur came back the team at like 40% health they destroyed virginia tech and then went through three of the best 4 teams in the acc in 3 days.
Now adding 3 pgs and 3 solid athletes and lose nothing it would take a coaching catastrophie for this to not be a top ten team. And we all know about the coaching...
Forget last season, UNC is not even #1 in the acc. No Wright No Terry Tyler is maxed out to his potential and won't be as improved as guys like costner and grant No shooters (lol wes miller) No frosh
Preaseason polls in both sports are 50% recent media prestige 50% talent. You guys can listen to the media all night long but theres no question that you don't have to look far to find the real acc favorites

If you think losing Atsur is losing nothing, you've got quite a surprise coming. The difference in our team when he played and when he didn't play was night and day. None of the guards we have now have the experience, shooting ability and defensive ability that Atsur had. Remember he played hurt all year last year. Before that, he was guarding the best guards and holding his own. It will be hard to replace the leader of the team on the floor. Finishing first in the ACC is a dream but finishing top 3 is definitely do-able if we can find the floor leadership in one of our PGs.9/6/2007 6:45:08 PM |

exactly why we lose nothing. We never completely "had" atsur last year unless you want to count the season up until trailing michigan. He was very slow and not a penetration threat at all. We now have three quick and athletic guys that can score a bit as well as handle/penetrate. We don't need a great pg or anything better than average when the team is loaded at every other position and the coach calls all the shots through the game. We just need somebody capable of playing point guard.

There, fixed it for you...And that PG is Sidney Lowe.
Like I said, finishing top 3 is given. Don't be delusional just because you're not used to NC State being good.9/6/2007 7:59:10 PM |

I totally agree that this year should be a very good year in basketball. The only question mark is pg but I am sure that both Lowe and Towe will have no problem helping them out since they both were pg on championship teams. Another thing that I am wondering is what do we do now with all this depth at each position and keeping all the players happy? As we know big time recruits want playing time!
I say that if we don't make it to the ACC Championship game and at least the Sweet 16 it will be a disappointing year especially with the talent that we have.
Regarding Dickie V and his preseason polls, this is how I look at the way he thinks: "I don't know who to pick baby! Gosh, I am such a homer for any team in the ACC especially those that wear the blue colors! I think that Roy Williams will have the best team in the country just like my accurate prediction of them whipping Georgetown by 20 and winning the Championship baby! I can't resist to put Duke near the top since I slept with Coach K the other week.... I wonder if he still has my toothbrush baby!" 9/7/2007 2:00:24 AM |

I wouldnt say we lose nothing with losing atsur just because he was hurt. We were only our best when he was on the court. The main thing we lose with atsur really isnt his PG ability, it's his tenatious defense. Atsur could hang with any of the elite PG's and helped to shut them down. That looks to be our biggest hit. The season outlook is good, but we need to keep the red tinted glasses off, at least until we see how a new PG will mesh into our system. I can agree expectations are about top 3-4 in the ACC and a sweet 16. Thats an on-goal year. 9/7/2007 2:56:07 AM |
