Alright, we have switched from WEP to WPA encryption for all wireless at work and are having a helluva time. Basically I have the install down and can get on the network wirelessly, but after about 5 minutes the thing boots you off. Now is this a radius issue, an issue with the WAP, or what? Has anybody dealt with this shit before? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well we setup our own certificate to install, and throw that on every computer. Go into the setting and disable using the windows login and password, as we want to specify the login ourselves. Change from Smart Certificate to PEAP and then select our certificate, and then hit okay. The wireless attempts to connect (using WinXP to manage the wireless NIC) and then requests login name & password, which we fill in, and it connects.

The RADIUS server itself is on a Windows server using Active Directory in the main office. All of it runs off a fiber ring that runs around town to the different schools. The network is layered so each school has a different IP, ie 10.19, 10.20, etc. What other sorta info do ya need/want?

yeah he wrote THE book though he doesn't post here anymore...some of that might have to do with him shutting down his ultra-inexpensive hosting service.

Well we isolated the issue to the WAP/switch in that classroom and had to convert it back to a WEP encryption. Not sure why, but we think that the Linksys ABG WAP can't handle WPA on a Radius server very well. Anybody had any issue like that?

is this the only place you are using that particular kind of switch? i haven't had much luck with many of linksys's products lately..

Actually we are using an Amer.com G WAP as the usual standard, but it had an issue in our office, so we used the WAP in the next room, which was a Linksys ABG WAP, probably the exact same make/model as the one in question in this room. We have one other lone teacher who is complaining of issues with her wireless on the other side of campus, and I am going to take my laptop out to her room tomorrow to see if its the same issue. If so, that WAP is an Amer.com and not a Linksys either, so I'm not sure if its just a communication or setup error between a couple of APs and the Radius server or what.

if you're planning on doing anything beyond simple WPA, please don't use consumer level hardware.

also, look at the radius logs, they are your friend

We think it was a WAP issue, but we have backed off the Radius server for now. I switched out most of the APs yesterday, or reconfigured them for WPA-PSK.
