so, my friend added a class last week and she did not know that it was distance education class. so she just added it just in case and now she found out that she doesn't need it. she checked today and she found out that the last day for price adjustment was 9/5. she is really stressed out over that because she just got billed for that class and now she has to pay for it even though she is not in that class since she just dropped it today. any suggestions on what to do ?? thanks

She can appeal the charge with registration and records, but without meeting some very specific criteria, she'll lose. I'm 99% certain she's stuck with the charges. This is why you pay attention to drop/add dates.

yeah shes gonna have to pay it

I take all distance education classes and have for the past 2 years. I added a 4 credit hour class and dropped it the day after the deadline, to add a 1 credit hour class. I had to pay for both the 4 credit hour class and the 1 credit hour class, even though I was only taking the 1 credit hour and I appealed it. They pretty much told me it was my loss, like $600 for a 1 credit hour course.

Just make sure she knows the rules and deadlines from now on.

That happened to me once when I first transfered to NCSU. I went to the Lifelong education office (McKimmon Center) and appealed. They took the charge off. It takes a lot of calling and leg work, and like 3 signatures from 3 of the heads of DE and Lifelong, so be prepared.

Lifelong Ed/DE/proctoring is no longer at the McKimmon Center.

"Distance ed" is administered through DELTA, housed in Venture III, and Lifelong Education services are now housed in Harris Hall.
