I spent most of last night at my house trying to network my new DSL Westell router with my Linksys router. I went to several websites for advice and found that there are some specific settings that I need to adjust within both items in order for them to work, notably bridging within the Westell and setting the Linksys to PPPoE (or whatever that is). In the process, I was told to reset my wireless router. Upon doing so, I have no longer been able to access the software of that router. No login page or anything. The IP mustve changed from the default. I even went into the DOS prompt and found the gateway IP tried that and even that didnt work. Now I am stuck and I cannot access the admin of the router. Any suggestions?

I know very little about this shit so please be gentle.

look for the button on the back and hold it down for about 30 seconds or so

it will reset everything to the way it was when you took it out of the box

yeah i did that...thats when this inability to access the damn thing started.

FIRST...hold down the reset button for a few seconds until you see all the lights flash...this is a hard reset and restores the router to default settings.

THEN

what you need is your username for your DSL account and your password.

then go to your admin page on the router.

From the main page select "PPPoE" under internet connection type

where it says username: enter your username (usually your email address associated with the account)
where it says password: enter your password.

select "keep alive" which should be selected by default anyway.

SAVE

go to status...click login....done.

i cant access the admin page on the router. this is problem. i have directly connected to the router, tried typing the IP address, finding the default gateway, etc...and i cannot get to the access page.

did you try a hard reset and unplug the router completely. If this is standard linksys router that hasn't been flashed with hacked firmware...then the routers ip address should always be 192.168.1.1 (you can change that in the settings but not if you restore it to default)

also when you go to the cmd window....what is your ip address? ipconfig

if its 169.XXX then thats your problem....its not the router.

i will check that when i get home. thanks. how i can i tell if it got some bad firmware? i downloaded some last night but it was from their website.

then the firmware should be fine as long as you downloaded the correct firmware.

Other then that just do a hard reset....make sure you hold the reset button down long enough. unplug---plug back in. then do what i said.

If your ipaddress on the PC starts with 169 then go under device manager and 'uninstall' the network card then do a scan for new hardware....it should find it and reinstall it. (don't just disable it) That usually fixes a lot of my network problems related to the workstation.

i dont download a lot of stuff so i really dont need the roadrunner. i dont really notice the speed difference. thanks for the help golovko.
