im messing around with some settings for adding full 5.1 to music and in this options window for a particular surround sound plugin for winamp there are options for surround channel :

surround chanel delay
surround trim

also if you all have any tips as to get the best audio quality out of my 5.1 and (non hardware accelerated, i know i know, soundcard) would be much appreciated

not sure if this is entirely related, but i use volume logic - http://www.volumelogic.com/ and it makes a world of difference
