What a bunch of classless, ignorant, assholes. They deserved that shitty program. Let's hope Schianno leaves for another school and they go back to hating their team more than their opponent.

okay i agree that their students don't have too much class but that article is so stupid

Quote :
""This is how you treat people who may die for this country?" said Bill Squires, an Annapolis graduate (Class of'75) who was on the sidelines for the Friday night game in Piscataway and was shocked by the obscene chants directed at the Navy players and fans throughout the game. "It was the most classless thing I've seen.""

"But you'd hope our Jersey kids would be smart enough to make an exception for the service academies, especially the weekend before the anniversary of Sept. 11, their generation's own Day of Infamy. You'd hope they'd be sensitive enough to realize that some of those Midshipmen may soon be among the young American men and women fighting and bleeding and dying in Iraq and Afghanistan. Young Americans, the same age as those safe in the stands watching a football game with their faces and bodies painted red."

i'm all for the troops and whatnot but (i don't want this to be a SB thread...) its a football game it doesn't matter who they are playing, they would do the same thing for every team

I'm a Naval Academy grad and I've been reading about this ever since the game on Friday night. Here's my take on the situation.

I know people cuss at games. It happens. It doesn't bother me all that much. I mean we all know how retarded Maryland looked with the Fuck Dook shirts and dropping the f-bomb all over nation TV a few years back. They'll get bad press and maybe the students will change.

Thing is, Navy and Rutgers were both really shitty for a long time and played each other a lot. There was a somewhat friendly competition that was going on as we were often in the small group of teams the other school had a chance at beating. This is just an example of new people finally paying attention to a team with some decent success. RU students never went to games 4 or 5 years ago. So there is obviously some trash there.

The big issue with Rutgers is the coach - he's right up there with Gary Williams in my book. He's a piece of shit who would have been a perfect fit at a thug school like Miami. But he says the right thigns in the press to stay pretty clean. But he did leave Ray Rice in late in the game against Navy after the victory was in hand. Called a timeout with 2:17 left and up 17 on a 4th & 1 inside the 5 yard line. Had Ray Rice run for a TD instead of kicking the FG. Also had his team jumping up on the Navy logo a few years back and held up the march on.

I am really sick and tired of all this OMG respect them because they are in the Navy. Yeah, sure respect us, but not to the point you castrate your fans. you should see some of the old farts on the navy board...won't even spell out "sucks" instead they do some shit like $u_k$

Yelling out "Fuck you Navy" is just plain classless. I know State fans can be dicks too, but I remember playing Navy a few years (02 I think) and I guarantee you no one was disrespecting that institution with shit like these Rutger fucks were chanting.

First of all, the whole "I killed your grandfather" shit never fucking happened. Chris Paul claimed that he heard that and the media jumped all over it and suddenly it was our fight song. I was at that game, as were others on this board, and no one heard that said.

Also making fun of FSU's overplayed "war" chant is not that same as saying fuck you to a group of young men and an institution that help to protect this country.

Hell they shouldn't even cheer for Rutgers when playing a service institution. This is college athletics not war, it would be one thing if they were chanting fuck navy, go al qaeda. Obviously they want their football team to win and things chanted at sporting events should never be taken seriously.
