What are some of the oldest or most addictive classic PC games some of you have played?

I remember wasting countless hours playing J-Bird. Brought back memories when i was in a store over seas and the music playing was J-Birds theme song

damn, i forgot to add Civilization and colonization.

and by classic, i mean games that game on floppies...

Most Addictive - Baldur's Gate 1 and 2. I missed a week of classes playing BG1 my sophomore year in 1999.

Oldest - Either Oregon Trail or Number Munchers

edit: Just found Oregon Trail and Number Munchers online.

I used to play these religiously over and over and over again. I loved them. I think playing the first two helped me learn to type so well.

I can't believe no one has said X-COM yet. It's so addictive I am STILL playing it. I have TFTD on my laptop and run it with DOSBox.

And good call on Dune II up there. I can't count the hours I spent playing that when I lived in UT and someone put it on one of the computers in the drop-in lab.

Had I known you liked Police Quest, I would have been friendlier to you over the years.

Did you play any of the other Sierra games?

Any of the old Sierra game series: King's Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest, Quest for Glory (John Rhys-Davies ftw!), Leisure Suit Larry

Any Apogee games: Cosmo's Cosmic Adventures, Commander Keen, Duke Nukem 1 & 2, Rise of the Triad (first FPS to my knowledge that had duel wielding), Raptor: Call of the Shadows, Terminal Velocity

Also the original Lemmings and Prince of Persia

I used to play Dino Park Tycoon a lot.

I fired it up on an emulator a few months back and beat the shit out of it. (I looked up a way to cheat that i never figured out in the years that i played it in middle school)

[Edited on September 12, 2007 at 11:01 AM. Reason : oh, and the Kyrandia series had me hooked for a while, too.]

Syndicate

That game was awesome, I tried to run it a year or so ago but it's apparently incompatable with modern hardware, it played at like 800 frames per second and was completely unplayable.

Got the CD of the game and the expansion pack like 10-12 years ago (it was already in the bargain bin at that time).

Oh hell yeah I remember Syndicate, that game was incredible. The mini-gun rocked.

I'd also like to add the Wing Commander series to my list. The whole Wing Commander storyline was great.

Yeah it was a good gun, but my favorite was the mind control gun. You just shoot someone with it and they are your ally for the rest of your mission.

It's nice to have like 6-8 cops walking around with you to take out your enemies for you.
