the industrial engineering dept has a lot of rapid prototyping machines that will do it. they have one that can do it in steel or titanium, although the cost of the titanium powder is insane so I'm not sure if they'll let you use it.
they also have all the stuff you'd need for sand casting it and would probably let you use it, assuming you have an idea how.. what kind of metal are you wanting it to be made out of? 9/13/2007 9:22:55 AM |

i did the sand casting when i took the TED class at ncsu.
just the cheapest metal i can find really.
i need to be able to weld it onto the back of a putter.
so a regular putt-putt shaped putter (but metal, not rubber) and im gonna weld the lower jaw to the back of it. so it will have this shape .. kinda

That'll be pretty bad ass.. I know we did some casting in IE216 but can't help you out much more than that since I'm not in Raleigh anymore..
[Edited on September 13, 2007 at 9:35 AM. Reason : and we always used aluminum so that's probably your best bet] 9/13/2007 9:33:11 AM |

Cool idea. In my experience though cast aluminum won't weld worth a damn... You could drill and tap it though. Keep us posted 9/13/2007 10:25:53 AM |

yeah, i made something out of cast alum. in class and twas a bit on the side of things..

[Edited on September 13, 2007 at 10:32 AM. Reason : before i go any further, i first found this on ebay. so i didnt come up with it. it was like $300 ] 9/13/2007 10:31:30 AM |

A dental technician could take a mold and do it for you. One of my friends said he'll make me some gold fronts. 9/13/2007 10:46:30 AM |

You'd have to go w/ something really lightweight or all that mass is really gonna screw up your short putts 9/13/2007 11:45:19 AM |

i tend to like the heavy head putters.
but yeah, if i dont be careful, it may be a disaster.
i could use alum i guess... 9/13/2007 12:11:32 PM |

You could go for the 'rat putter' look and do the teeth in stone, weather them and dirty them up, paint the putter flat black and add a ragged leather grip 9/13/2007 12:54:24 PM |

you are going to want this done in Copper, Brass or Steel.
You can get copper and brass pours done locally. My buddy just did it recently and it ran him about 125 bucks for two casts. I'll ask him where he got it done, this sounds like the kind of retarded project those guys love 9/13/2007 1:55:30 PM |

The foundry has moved from TED. It is now housed in the design school.
Funny how I teach a lesson on foundry, but can't have students do it. (I'm a TA for TED110) 9/18/2007 8:27:33 PM |

I can't do anything now. You need to find someone in the design school if you want to make it from cast aluminum. I can help you out if you find someone though. 9/19/2007 9:04:21 AM |
