I've had my trusty ps2 since day 1 and I think it's on its last legs. About 9 out of 10 tries I get a disc read error, and the dvd player hasn't worked in quite some time.

Soo, I'm thinking it's time to get a new one. I was thinking I heard something about the slim ones being slower or glitchier than the original fat ones though?

Any ideas on how to save my old one or about getting a new one?

when my old one crapped out, i got one of the first waves of the slim ones and i've never had a problem with it. i swear it's like 5-10% faster too (i notice it on certain games)

but for your old one, maybe the lens is dirty? you can always void your warranty and air can the inside. but maybe your laser is just on its last legs.

haha void your warranty.....yeah an original launch ps2 is WELL beyond it's warranty years, like mine, which I cracked open and cleaned/adjusted the laser angle to make it work again

You know there's a PS3 out there right?
And it's faster
and better
I'd recommend it

And it doesn't work with all PS2 games?

I have an orig. PS2 that I bought a couple of years ago exclusively for GT San Andreas, and I have barely played it. Make me an offer if interested, its in perfect shape and has cords, controller, and memory card.

^^^Or because it doesn't play FFVII? There's a myriad of reasons I have no desire to purchase a ps3.

I had a Gen 1 PS2 that crapped out years ago. I then bought the fat one with the ethernet adapter built in; I've yet to have a problem with it.
