i really think we're injury cursed...

Quote :
"By NC State Media Relations NC State head men’s basketball coach Sidney Lowe has announced that point guard Javier Gonzalez underwent surgery on Saturday to repair a ligament in his right (shooting) thumb. Gonzales suffered the injury on Friday during a skill workout when he dove for a loose ball.

Gonzalez, a 6-0 freshman from Carolina, Puerto Rico, will be in a cast for six weeks and will be out of action for a total of 10-12 weeks.

“This is a tough thing for Javi to have to go through so early in his career,” said Lowe. “But we will look forward to his return early in the season and know that he will be able to contribute to our team this year.” "

this deserved its own thread

Yes. Plus, limited practice. He won't be ready for ACC ball in january.

what?

he'll be ready to play when the conference schedule starts, but missing three months of practice and gametime will hurt plenty

We don't have many tough games in Nov/Dec--just two of the Old Spice Classic games (Penn State/Cocks, then probably K State or 'Nova), Michigan State, and maybe you could count Davidson, Cincinnatti, or Seton Hall.

The experience he won't be getting during those two months is what's really going to hurt.

So we only have Degand for the first part of the season...

I was hoping we would never have to see Grant at the point again.

^^Yeah, he probably will have to play some backup minutes at the point. He's definitely more effective there than Fells.

10-12 weeks is early to mid-December, not January or later.

its just a thumb. he'll still be able to practice everything except dribbling and shooting which i'm sure are his strong points. he'll be able to practice defense, play recognition and overall iq. Degand is in great shape i'm sure and playing 30+ minutes for 3 games won't be a problem. We'll win the rest of the games he's out for by so many points it won't matter.

and again...do we even know if this guy is good? was he #1 out of degand and johnson?

hopefully it will be alot like the case last year

we will suffer for awhile, luckily we have some backups there THANK GOD THIS YEAR!

but hopefully the rest of the team gets stronger and when he returns they play even better

reminds me of the 83' year a little

it says he'll be in a cast for 6 weeks, so he wont be able to do jack shit until then

and i doubt they'd let him do any kind of practicing until it fully heals

I have to laugh at the blind optimism that Earl brings. Yeah I hope we win every game by 30, but acting all confident that we'll just blow everyone up before the ACC schedule starts that we don't need a backup PG ranks up there with some of the other mindless shit you've spewed all over sports talk.

I think Degand was our starter anyway... still this hurts a lot. These early games are where Lowe can test Javy out and see how he handles the offense. Now our backup is an unknown until league play... let's just pray to god that Degand can handle it.
