So I've never legally had a get together as big as I'm planning, and I want to do it the right way.

Looking at having 1-200 guests, will definitely need food and drink. I still have a few underage friends, so it's important they can get in. maybe a DJ? Although I'd almost rather just have some music in the background and let people be able to mingle.

Ideas tdub? On where and what I can do, as well as how much $$$ this is going to run me?

have some faith man, i'm sure more than 1 person will show up

What day of the week are you looking at doing this? I'd imagine it would be easy to rent out the place during a slow night but would be more difficult and costly on a weekend. Also are you wanting to have the place closed down and only for your party or open to the public as well? A friend of mine used to throw big parties at clubs and the way it worked was he gets a % of cover at the door but all his guests got in free, the public had to pay.

^I'm open to whenever during the week/weekend. I'm also open to doing it like that having my guests in free, but I want to make sure the kids not of legal age can still get in without getting hassled. I'm also not looking for places with ear-piercing music or full of morons who are going to hassle my friends who just want to hang out

I can tell you where not to have it. Buckhead! Although I went there for a party not too long ago and they had free beer until 10pm (before 10pm its empty anyway except for your party)

The office, given that it sucks so much and no one goes and they're in desperate need for business, I'd imagine thats a good place to go during the week and have it setup the way you want. Meaning no loud music like on normal nights etc. Plus its a big open space where everyone can mingle (although no seating).

^yeah, it is, hence the thread title They have music there on occasion too. Really good food, really good atmosphere to have a gathering. I guess I'll go over there and ask them about it

Wouldn't Humble Pie be a little small for a crowd that size?

Though I don't really have any good alternative suggestions...

most hotels in the area have large ballrooms and smaller side rooms that you can rent out. some places have it to where if you get a certain $$ amount of food and drinks then you can have the rooms for free.

country clubs are the same but might cost you $texas. just depends on what you are wanting and looking for in a location.

american tobacco in durham also has bays you can rent out for the evening on the side where tyler's is.

all of these "private" places won't hassle your underage friends. i have planned banquets and stuff in these venus and never had problems with id's..

wow this got long...

We do it at the velvet cloak. You can rent the big ballroom for 900 for a weekday night. You could have a (heated) pool party in the atrium (holds up to 300, you dont have to use the pool if you dont want to) for 1100 during the week or 1200 on a weekend. You have to use our bartender, but they dont hassle about drinking. I don't know all the specifics, but if you are interested, I could dig them up. I have seen some badass parties in the atrium though- everyone rents out the rooms around the pool, and then once you break down the actual party, you can keep going.

^^ Hah good luck with up to 200 guests. You're going to have to plan for the maximum and pay for the maximum you expect anywhere you go. $1000 is real lowball.

Your best bet is renting out a hall or half a hall and getting someone to cater it for dirt cheap.

If you're anywhere near RTP, I'd recommend 111 Place (Called One Eleven Place) it's run by the NC ASSN of realtors and you can rent out 1/4 of their hall for pretty cheap, on the whole it's pretty cheap.

For caterers, I'd recommend Catering by Design, the owner Greg is a real straight shooter and won't fuck you over. 919-481-2366

Think about it. You have 200 guests. If you want to spend only $1000 then that leaves $5 per person to spend on the party. How are you going to have alcohol, food, entertainment for $5 per person?

^^we had our office party there a year ago, it was alright.

I don't think you guys understand I dont want to have this at a damn banquet hall. This isn't a wedding or some lame-ass afternoon get together. I just want a place for all my friends to be able to meet up and have a good time.

Food im talking like finger-food at most, likely just letting everyone go dutch on their own food (hence why it'd be nice to do it at a restaurant), and I'll throw down chunk on a big bar tab for my guests.

banquet halls/conference rooms are all so stuffy and fake. I mean if worse comes to worse I'll just do it here at my house, get a few kegs and some wings and pull out Twister.
