I bought a 50 inch Sony Wega LCD about two years ago (although it was the previous years' model at the time). I haven't had any problems with it to date, however, wondering when I can expect the bulb will burn out. (I've heard anywhere from 5,000 to 8,000 hours of use). Also, when it does burn out, what the approximate cost to get a new one is, and if it is possible to install myself. Lastly, I've also heard that once you replace the bulb, the TV is like new again - ie. as long as you can keep replacing bulbs, the TV will keep it's HD picture. Does anybody have any information regarding any of this? Thanks.

if you can replace the bulbs, your user's guide will explain how to do this. my samsung dlp explains it in great detail. if yours doesn't, assume either a) you can't or b) they don't want you to. someone on the internet has the same TV you do and may know the answer.

new bulb will be anywhere from $100-$300

It should be easily replaceable (my DLP has a little door with a thumbscrew + the whole assembly slides out, you slide the replacement in).

The TV being like new is true for DLPs, but I would imagine that LCD projection does suffer from SOME picture degradation over time. Nothing that you will ever notice, though.
