This game is a LOT of fun. And its 3 DVD's and a good 80-120 hours of gameplay.

It's an extremely traditional turn based RPG, but thats why I LOVE it. I haven't played anything like it since Final Fantasy 3 on the SNES, and this is the scratch for that itch. Everything is beautiful, the entire game plays almost effortlessly, and there is SO much you can do.

Took me a while to get used to not having weapons to buy or find, as well as realizing you can look for things literally everywhere, but it really does add to the game.

I miss the old-school, simplistic style of rpgs like FF2 and 3. Not saying having an amazing story isn't great, but rpgs have been consumed by their plots as of late.. and forgotten their basics.

This game looks kinda cool.

Not a huge fan of the old school Japanese RPG combat.

I would rather play a western RPG like Baldur's Gate or KOTOR.

The story line is VERY slow and meh until Disc 2 starts.

Im like 35 hours in and it's getting REALLY fun to play now.

Very traditional, very much like FF3 on the SNES, which is awesome.

oblivion has really ruined everyone's idea of an RPG in my opinion

I consider that an action/adventure game. Sure there are quests, sure there are levels...i don't know, i just think turn based, numbers all over the screen, random encounters you can't avoid = RPG

maybe i'm just old school

maybe jrpgs of years passed just ruined your idea of what rpgs are.

oblivion has character creation, quests, multiple branching paths and factions, etc.

^^one of my favorite things about this game is it's done a lot like Mystic Quest was.

You can SEE the enemies in the field, and you only rarely HAVE to fight anything. You can attack groups of enemies, you can pit them against each other by attacking smart groupings.

You have field effects to hide from enemies, or to auto-kill them, or to attract or repel them.

The whole encounter system is by far the best I've ever seen in a turn based RPG.

I'm only about half way through disc 1 and it seems ridiculously easy so far to me.

I played the demo of Eternal Sonata though and I like that better... although i've never generally been a fan of turn-based RPGs.

It is on the side of easy, especially if you are like me and kill EVERY enemy, because you are so used to power-leveling in RPG's.

The game is designed to played through, not grinded. So just go through the game killing things on the way and it will not only be much more difficult, it will be much more entertaining.

Or. You can hop on xbox live and get the Ultra Hard Mod

Quote :
"Content: Ultra Hard Mod
Price: Free
Availability: Not available in Japan
Dash Text: [ESRB: T (Teen) FANTASY VIOLENCE] The Ultra Hard Mod adds three new features to Blue Dragon. New Game Plus is a game mode that allows you to start your game over using a saved game from near the end of Blue Dragon. The Hard game mode allows you to play at a difficulty level that is twice as high as the original. The Impossible game mode is the ultimate in difficulty and is meant to be played starting at Level 50 or higher."
