I love football games that pit an ACC team against SEC team. I wish we would schedule more games against SEC teams. (hold the "we would get slaughtered" comments) I know there was talk about a game against Tennessee. Is it still on or has it been cancelled? I'd love to see a NC State/Georgia match up. It just surprises me that we can't schedule more of these games, considering the proximity (southeast).
So what's the reason? 9/30/2007 7:11:24 PM |

Its actually pretty rare for major league teams to scrimmage minor league teams... 9/30/2007 7:16:04 PM |

NC State opens at South Carolina next year. South Carolina plays UNC this year. Florida State plays Florida and Miami used to play them too until the Gators stopped the series. Georgia Tech always plays Georgia. Clemson and Georgia used to have a good rivalry going. GT played Auburn a couple of years ago. Clemson always plays South Carolina. Virginia Tech played LSU. 9/30/2007 7:40:16 PM |

The Pac 10 has routinely whooped the SEC's ass. Remember what USC did to SEC west champ Arkansas? Hell look how Cal embarrassed tennessee. How are the vols doing this year? They'd be lucky to beat Wake Forest this year.
It's cute how the SEC plunges itself into cheating, covering up grades, paying players, etc. in order to maintain your football prowess, but the simple fact is that the SEC isn't any better than any other conference, the ACC included. 9/30/2007 9:53:41 PM |

The SEC has some pretty sweet stadiums/tailgate scenes though...
i went to the georgia/tenn game last year at georgia...one heckuva tailgate scene. 9/30/2007 10:00:19 PM |

I think the SEC is probably the best, or at least toughest to get through.
But it's not as good as most SEC fans think. 9/30/2007 10:02:10 PM |

^^^ you are dumb. Once again, for the 1000th time... single game matchups mean nothing. App State beat Michigan one week. That doesnt mean that you put them in the Big10 and they dominate.
Would WF beat Tennessee this year? maybe. maybe not, but lets say yes. Ok, then the week after that, they get Florida, then LSU, then Georgia, then Auburn, then South Carolina, then Vandy (who isnt amazingly good, but starting QBs 1 and 2 were knocked out by Florida and Auburn, and half their secondary is gone from a rough South Carolina game)
Quote : | "The Pac 10 has routinely whooped the SEC's ass" | I was going to attribute this shit to age but you are 26, no excuse
maybe you didnt start watching football until USC's revival the last few years...
so for your sake:
The SEC leads the Pac-10 59-36-5 (.615)

As an student to both an ACC and SEC school, I can tell you that AndyMac is right. The SEC is probably one of, if not the, best conference in football.
But, BUT, as he said, these teams are not as good as SEC fans would like to believe.
They have their nobodies, and powerhouses, just the the ACC. Or the ACC used too before Miami BC and VT came. (we can argue all day if expansion has made us worse or better, but lets just say its made us slightly worse overall in all 12 schools) But the SEC always has the same few classic named schools up on the top, Bama, Tenn., LSU, Auburn to an extent. But their faith in these schools carrying the day is the same as ours in FSU was before the expansion. Thus is gives them the impression, thru these schools, that their conference is superior. Simple as that. Take out Bama or Georgia and you may see a different attitude.
I would love to see more SEC ACC games instead of playing Div III schools. I mean it would make every game count so much more to the fans, and help us out in the end by playing real good historic schools.
Alas tho, neither conference is better ( okay SEC has more championships) in the end, but i think the rabid fans have more to do with it than anything else. We have basketball and they have football. And I rather like the constant ying yang battle we play every year. It makes college sports more than enthralling. 9/30/2007 10:26:35 PM |

^ I agree with some of that. The gap is definitely shrinking with the scholarship limits (bear bryant used to have 250+ players) back in the day, but its still clearly #1 by a long shot

Their nobodies (I'm assuming you mean Vandy, MSU, and Kentucky pre 06) would compete with our "powerhouses" of which I'm having trouble identifying, I guess BC this season. Jaybee's right, you can't go off "team-SEC just lost to team-ACC this season, therefore the ACC is better." Alabama isn't even the 4th best school in the SEC as far as I'm concerned and they hung with FSU, our best team, maybe I should wait until FSU beats BC to make that assertion, but whatever. My favorite claim against the SEC is USC beating up on Arkansas. Just curious, who does USC have a losing % against with teams they've played twice over the last 6 years? Not too many I expect, so in no way should the SEC receive a downgrade because the NFL apprentice laden USC team kills everyone, regardless of conference. If you're going to attack the SEC, at least make a plausible claim, like they are cheaters and their coaches are slimeballs, then at least you're accurate, but don't say they aren't the best conference in football by far.

funny that the Florida girls in this month's Girls of the SEC feature in playboy were, in face, wearing jean shorts. 10/1/2007 12:14:57 AM |

Yeah that slipped in there accidentally. I should have left them out since I was making a point UF is not a classic school in football. Thats my bad.
Quote : | "but don't say they aren't the best conference in football by far." |
I won't b/c I've seen them play. LSU beat MS State b/c State is atrocious, and any decent school can beat them. UF wins by some sort of god like miracle if you run your QB 50 times in 2 weeks. And yes I hate on LSU b/c they play UF and VT. So far they've showed up VT and thats exceptional. How the hell UK is 8th i'll never know.

Lets look outside this year, and use a little imagination. ACC powerhouse's nationally, FSU, VT, Miami, to a case by case extent Maryland Clemson and since their addiction BC.
This is an ACC off year. Or maybe its just a sign of things to come. Who knows. The SEC is superior this year for sure, but the best conference maybe.10/1/2007 1:32:31 PM |

I think some of it is the fact that any ACC team outside of Duke can beat any other ACC team. The teams the past 2 years have all been competitive. Just look at us, we finished last in our division and beat 2 of the "powerhouses". The ACC hasn't done THAT bad out of conference this year. 10/1/2007 1:38:44 PM |

FSU is a national powerhouse I thought as well, but it was refuted in this thread in favor of Clemson, still scratching my head over that one. Va tech has been good for a decade, does that make them a powerhouse, 50/50 to me, and they got worked over badly by LSU.

you'll get laughed out of any conversation by saying any of these teams are powerhouses with one BCS/Alliance appearance in the last umpteen years between the three, and a shlacking at the hands of a, you guessed it, SEC team at the sole BCS appearance by the three combined.

I never said that FSU wasn't a perrinial powerhouse, or that they weren't our best team historically (Miami would probably get that award though). You said:
Quote : | "Alabama isn't even the 4th best school in the SEC as far as I'm concerned and they hung with FSU, our best team, maybe I should wait until FSU beats BC to make that assertion, but whatever." |
And I gave evidence why FSU isn't our best team RIGHT NOW.
Which is what I thought we were talking about.
If you're talking all time, then Alabama is easily the best team in the SEC.10/1/2007 11:41:25 PM |
