The only things I care about are in-car view, fish-eye lens effect and driving realism.

The cars (unfortunately) have stagnated on realism since GT4/Forza2/PGR3.

I also bought the ps2 slim just for gt4. The only games I own are gt4, gta:sa, and tourist trophy. Yeah, gt5 would require some expensive purchases. Sony's OLED HDTV's just came out this week in Japan only, but perhaps by the time gt5 comes out, we'll have some nice 42" high res 3mm thick TV's here in the states

GTHD is out now (only a demo version) the real thing got canned. We have to wait till Xmas 09 for GT5.

Ferrari is going to be in, what about the other big 3? RUF doesn't count.

Did you say Christmas 2009? You're telling me the release of GT5 is over two years away?? Damn...that's just ridiculous.

Maybe not unexpected though...a little less than 2 years between GT1 & GT2, year and a half between GT2 & GT3, then 3.5 years between GT3 and GT4. So almost 5 between GT4 & GT5 fits.

At this rate, if there is a GT6, it will come out for the Playstation 5 in the year 2020.

I wonder if they'll still be selling PS3's in 2009, or will Sony cut its loses and trash the whole concept.

2009? Where do you people get this stuff? There will be a downloadable demo on the 20th of this month. GT5: Prologue itself will be out December 15th in Japan and early 2008 in the US.

yeah gtHD got reduced in scale, a lot. probably not a bad thing tho, should result in quicker development time for GT5....

About the damage, i read in an article in some car magazine a while ago where they interviewed the developers of the game. supposedly it would take just as long (or longer) to make damage on the cars as it does to model each individual car. im not too sure though because it was a long time ago when i read the article. they also said that they were going to probably release the game without damage, smoke etc. and then provide updates online like the xbox live update thing. (i dont have a ps3 so i dont know what the online system is called.) BUT like others have been saying im saving up for this system and game. gt4 was the only reason i have a ps2.

i heard that they do not have damage to cars because:

they use real car that are sold in the game and companies who produce the cars do not want a video game featuring them getting worn out, broken down, fucked, up and broken.

i heard in order for them to do that they would have to pay each company royalties and go through a process of having each damaged situation approved by the company.

in other words it would be expensive as fuck. i believe thats why no games that feature real cars have realistic car damage etc.....

then what about forza

that had real cars with real damage

from its wiki page:

Quote :
"Forza Motorsport is a racing simulator video game developed by Microsoft Game Studios for the Xbox gaming system. Since its release it has been heralded as one of the most realistic racing simulators for any of the popular gaming consoles. It was shipped to stores on May 3, 2005. The name Forza means "strength" in Italian.

Many people were confused when Forza was first announced, because Microsoft already had a flagship racing game in the form of the Project Gotham Racing series. The primary difference between the two is that Forza aims to be a very accurate simulation whereas PGR has much more of an arcade feel. Forza is circuit-based while PGR is mainly city-based (although some of the tracks in Forza are present).

Forza is also notable for its ability to realistically model damage to cars, from both a cosmetic and a performance standpoint, which was (and still is) a very impressive feat in terms of acquiring the liscences for the 200+ cars. This changes the way the game is played, in contrast to the Gran Turismo series, as collisions with barriers and other cars will alter the car's handling, top speed and acceleration. More noticeably, spoilers and bumpers can be knocked off cars, paint can be scraped off and windows can be smashed (the front wondow however can only be shattered, not knocked out fully). Microsoft did not, however, get permission from car manufacturers to depict cars rolling over.

The cover art features a tuned Acura NSX racing against a tuned Nissan 350Z."

Though it was only on PC, Need for Speed: High Stakes had realistic damage, and it featured real cars. It was a bit simplistic on how it affected performance (this is a 7 or 8 year-old game I'm talking about), but the damage was definitely there. Try as you might I don't think you could roll the car though.

what? Every rally game i've played = realistic car damage (some production cars but all real cars from racing teams)
Forza 1 and 2 = very very realistic physics and car damage. (real cars)

No, we're talking about the full version of GT5. GT5 Prologue is not the full version. Is GT5 still planned for Dec 2009?

whats funny is i'm sure all of those cars started out in dimensionally correct cad files..
and then had to be reverse engineers back into a digital format after they were made.

GT5 was never planned for December 2009. I say again, where do you people get this stuff? Every checkable source says TBA 2008. Prologue is coming out in February, and frankly will have as much content as any "full game". The actual GT5 release date is all speculation thus far, and has never slipped past the 2008 holiday season.

May as well toss in some more pictures while I'm in here.

^But I should hope TBA:2008 does not mean the 2009 Holiday season. That'd be a little ridiculous.

So I'm assuming that, were one to buy GT5rologue, then theoretically that person should get a discount on the full version when it appears? It would suck to have to pay $50 for Prologue and then another $50 for the full version...

"Gran Turismo 5 gets Data Logger Visualization, imports track day video [w/VIDEO]

One day we're going to finally get our hands on Gran Turismo 5. And when we sample Polyphony Digital's long-awaited sequel we'd be amazed (and delighted) if the game lives up to its constantly growing hype. While we still have absolutely no idea when GT5 will hit the shelves, when it does arrive it will come strong with a raft of new features gamers have been clamoring for.

Beyond damage rendering and a cornucopia of racing styles, GT5 will reportedly also come with Data Logger Visualization. DLV will enable gamers to go to a track in the real world and shoot in-car video, upload that clip to the PlayStation 3 and then compare that footage side by side against a virtual run in GT5. The folks at Polyphony Digital tested the functionality for themselves, and the resulting video after the jump is pretty impressive. Amazingly, the only difference between the live and game footage is that the real-world camera was shaky and uncrisp while the GT5 video is expectantly perfect. Very cool. Now if we can only get a copy for ourselves before Forza 4 arrives for the XBOX 360..."

Holy shit that is freaking awesome! The video on the page is well worth watching. Seems like an awesome feature, though I doubt I'll be able to afford to run on any of the tracks featured within the game, lol.
