I'll start this off with Super Smash Brothers Melee. Played this game all the time my first couple years of college, but still got my ass brutally kicked anytime I played with people who were even moderately competent at it.

^i know that feeling....

i think it had more to do with my interest in sending a pichu with flying goggles across the screen repeatedly than my actual lousy skill level. That and watching it walk..I always got a kick out of that.
I got more entertainment out of those two things than I ever did trying to win at that game.

and RTS games...i love em, but starcraft playing as zerg was the only one I was good at

Street Fighter games I hold my own against the average person, serious players not so much.

I don't dominate at Mario Kart like I used to.

Only games I don't do well in are racing games and some 3D fighting games like Dead or Alive and Soul Caliber, although I do decent in the fighting games.

Racing games just suck for me.

My roommate junior year had Melee and I always picked Captain Falcon. The thing with Falcon was that his moves were highly telegraphed, every time you did his big move he would yell "Falcon...(pause) Punch!" and in the mean time someone would just know to kick you if nearby.

It was awesome though when it actually landed on someone.

Oh yeah, Starcraft. Don't even remind me. I played the shit out of that game when it came out. Beat the single player and everything. Decided to try my hand at online play.

Enter: Korea

The same exact scenario repeated itself years later with Warcraft III.

^^That's why you use the falcon punch while jumping. You land right behind someone as the punch "activates". It is also good for edge guarding. Other than that, Falcon's strength is his speed... stick to just using your smash and aerial attacks (electric knee ftw).

God I love that game.

That, and repeated use of Kirby's stomp, are probably the most overused n00b tactics I've seen.

RTS games with a ton of micro, like Warcraft 3.

I'm alright at games where you mass a ton of units, like Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander, and I'm good at tactical games like Total War, but games where you only have a couple dozen units and they ALL have powers that you MUST use to win, forget about it.

Also, I'm not that good at games where rushing is a requirement, like Dawn of War and Company of Heroes, although I love those games.

^^I hate games where everyone rushes too. I loved playing the Command and Conquer series online but the internet is full of n00bs who will rush in < 2 mins. I don't see the fun in that. Every now and then I would get a decent game that lasted a few hours and was full of all different types of units and you actually had to use strategy to win.
