as dumb some of the posts in this thread are, baby bonds are a relevent issue (and stupid idea) that make for quite legitimate discussion (or at least ridicule of the idea and anyone who thinks it's a good one).

also, some have had the idea to have national service (military or civil) like so many other countries...it wouldn't be mandatory, but you wouldn't get to cash in your baby bond if you didn't do it.

That baby bond thing is about as stupid as Bush's $300 tax refund to every american.

^ That military or civilian service type deal is a good idea duke about being able to cash it in; but I thought military personal and those they serve in something like the peace corp already get a large subsidy to attend school after their tour of duty.

All the candidates suck in my opinion. One groups wants to give out my money for stupid social programs and turn us into this big Green Politically Correct Nation. The other wants to spend my money dropping bombs, as leverage to lower their corporate taxes, and turn us into a Christian Value nation

yeah, but at least that $300 dollars is a refund for money that was wrongfully stolen in the first place, not an entitlement...

i haven't thought about it that much, and I don't know the numbers, costs, and details behind it. it just doesn't really strike me as being that necessary.

and what you are referring to is the Montgomery G.I. Bill (MGIB). You don't automatically get it, but if you buy in for $1200 ($100/month for your first year on active duty), you're eligible. I think it's about a $40,000 benefit as of right now.

Honestly i think politics is a lose- lose situation. People are always going to be bitching about something. If their was a perfect solution then you'd think someone would have found it and implemented it into the model form of govt that everyone would follow.
