i saw this on cnn earlier today, on the website at least. i thought this was a very moving thing, to see that people still are patriotic enough to notice things like that. i have a set of marine corps and us flags in my room, and i've always taken great, GREAT care to keep them from ever hitting the ground. i've literally fallen out of my chair to keep the flag from hitting the ground when i've bumped the desk too hard. it's that type of awareness that i appreciate with regards to patriotism. didn't know it was against the law? fuck that shit, he knew he was in America flying another country's flag ABOVE ours. fuck him

I find it amusing that people think the flag code is anything but the remnants of the first "Red Scare." It was written during this time period and formalized in 1923. It was adopted as US code in 1942 during War years, although it had to be altered due to similarities to a particular Nazi hand gesture. It's a fairly un-american restriction on expression, even if it's got no teeth.
