I bet that record was mastered from a digital recording, defeating the point of having a record in the first place. Records are only unique for stuff that was done all analog from back in the days. 10/6/2007 11:37:01 PM |

Not true at all. First of all, there are still people recording on analog equipment today. Secondly, digital recording equipment can operate at a much higher sample rate than supported by CDs. Just the shit I've got at my bedroom can record at 96kHz with 24 bits per sample, whereas the Red Book audio format that CDs use stores information at 44.1kHz with 16 bits per sample. Once again, this is what I have IN MY BEDROOM. You could easily go down to Guitar Center and buy some shit that's much higher quality than that.10/7/2007 11:23:40 AM |

You will likely also need to get a preamp if your amp doesn't have a built in set of phono jacks. 10/14/2007 4:45:41 PM |

^if she just gets a turn table yes. but its not uncommon for thrift stores like goodwill to have a complete record player or a mini stereo with some tape decks on the front and a turn table on the top. 10/14/2007 6:11:37 PM |

^ true. But if this guy wants any semblance of even semi-good quality, those types of units are not an option. 10/14/2007 6:52:21 PM |

yeah i guess thats a good point, she might have to go garage sailing, sometimes people sell a turn table and an amplifier/reciever made to go with it all at once. Another advantage of that approach is that those things have a certain look and feel to them you can't get anymore, the ones with a brushed steel box, back lit needle readouts and heavy metal dials. And the ones I'm thinking of were so well built they usually still work. 10/14/2007 8:11:38 PM |
