Has anyone had any luck getting Verizon to prorate these fees.
I know that Verizon's new plans allow such a prorated amount.
My contract unfortunatly - does not have this option. It just seems kinda f'd up to me. I'm about 4-5 months away from my 2 year contract and wouldnt mind paying a prorated fee, but 175 is kinda steep.
Has anyone had success doing this? Are there any special loopholes that can make this happen? 10/8/2007 2:34:25 PM |

I'll ask the obvious question: Why are you canceling your service?
There are sometimes ways to avoid to fee depending on the reasons you're canceling. 10/8/2007 2:36:58 PM |

You can get out of a termination if you can prove you've relocated to an area that they do not offer service in.
or if you've enlisted in the military, i think. 10/8/2007 2:47:15 PM |

look at it this way.
Steve jobs paid your cancellation fee when he dropped the price.
and he also gave you $25 for being a swell guy. 10/8/2007 2:50:15 PM |

If for any reason they change the terms of your contract I think you have 30 days to opt out or cancel your contract with no fee as per their agreement.
google a bit about verizon early termination 10/8/2007 3:31:18 PM |

Just check consumerist.com
They have many posts dealing with this. Seems to me like it's about time for Verizon to pull something like a text message price increase, anyway. And that would be your out. 10/8/2007 3:44:00 PM |

If you can't find a way to cancel, Verizon just started a program where they'll let customers change their plans without extending the contract. See if you can get away with paying ~$30 a month or something and don't use the phone.] 10/8/2007 3:46:02 PM |

Here is a loophole... Get a 1 year contract next time.
Or have you forgotten the kickass phone Verizon gave you 1.5 years ago in exchange for signing the 2 year contract? 10/8/2007 4:03:01 PM |

PERSONALLY, I don't think you should cancel the verizon one. I think Miska's suggestion is a good one. What if you hate AT&T's service after you get the iPhone? Then you'll be stuck with an expensive phone and shitty contract, where as now you don't dislike Verizon's service--correct?
when you inquire w/ AT&T, see if there's a grace period with them and their plan that you can cancel easily if you hate it...this way, you can test it out, and sell the iPhone on ebay. if you hate it, re-up your verizon plan and get a nicer phone when it's time for you to renew your contract with them.

you might be able to have the numbers forwarded, I'd call verizon and ask 10/8/2007 4:15:52 PM |

that's true...but that's not the end of the world. I'd be more mad, and you will be you too you know it, if I got the iPhone and then end up loathing AT&T's service than if I just had to get a new number. 10/8/2007 4:17:28 PM |

i switched from cingular to sprint a year ago.
the phone wouldnt work where i live (in the valley of crabtree creek/ glenwood)
but other services would. all of them...sprint, verizon, alltel.
they said they would waive the termination fee.
of course being cingular they sent me a bill for terminating early, but after a simple 30 minute phone call it was resolved. 10/8/2007 4:19:33 PM |
