I know how most people can't stand Chapel Hill, but if you like stand-up comedy, there's a pretty great show taking place on Wednesday night at Local 506 off Franklin St.

I’ve been asked to open up for a group of semi-famous comedians from New York that are touring the East Coast. The show is Wednesday, October 10th at 9pm at Local 506 in Chapel Hill. The comedians are Sean O’Connor (named by the NY Post as one of the “Top 20 Entertainers to Watch in 2006”), Jonah Ray ("Live at Gotham," actor/writer for Comedy Central, MTV and SuperDeluxe), Nick Maritato and Andrew Wright. I’m doing 15 minutes of stand-up and it's going to be pretty amazing. This is going to be an incredible show and could be a huge step for me, so I am extremely excited about being a part of it; Sean and Jonah are hilarious and I’ve heard good things about Nick Maritato and Andrew Wright.

Tickets for the show are $8. If you are not a member of Local 506, you'll have to buy a $3 membership at the door. I recommend getting there by 8:30pm to secure a good parking spot and to beat the crowd by a few minutes. Local 506 serves copious amounts of alcohol, but no food.

Feel free to pass along this info to other people. Let me know if you have any questions and I look forward to maybe seeing some of you out there for an awesome show!

-Greg

A lot of alt-comics are doing stand-up shows at rock clubs now. Louis CK did a show at the Cat's Cradle back in February and it was amazing. David Cross also played there a few years back.

Local 506 is like a smaller Cat's Cradle and is a pretty good venue for stand-up. I saw Eugene Mirman there about two months ago and it was great.

^ Yes, but it only has to be a dollar, and if it's going to minimal enough to not be a "real" membership fee, then asking for two extra bucks is just a grab. I mean, they could at least include a free PBR.

Haha, Bobby, you left-handed pitching sonuvabitch!! What's up, man?!?

He's right, I AM a pretty incredible softball player when I'm drunk (seriously). Come out to the show and I'll regale you afterwards with hilarious softball stories that include 5-for-5 drunk batting, constant cursing at umpires, the "Virgin Mary" mysteriously bloody knee, and the teammate whose girlfriend I wanted to fuck.

when you live in chapel hill for 22 years and have seen about five fraudently gay people your entire life, one feels the need to post issue with this stereotype

[Edited on October 10, 2007 at 5:52 PM. Reason : now UNC could be another issue...]
