because they are concerned for a friend and that friends financial stability and status, knowing that getting engaged/married can often be very expensive, thus causing financial burdens, thus leading to marital problems, thus leading to divorce, thus rendering this whole process unnecessary and preventable.

what exactly defines "troubles"

Not having the cash?

Because if that is the case, then I'll tend to agree.

^way to take it to the extreme

and no, that's not what was said. you can love someone without money. you can get married without money. however, many divorces/marital problems/arguments stem from finances, thus it is smart/best to be financial stable before getting married, but not a requirement.

How did you get that out of what I posted? If love was only so black and white as you just made it out to be, you kids wouldn't have as many problems as you do.

i thought you both should make your own monies... what do having money have to do with getting married unless you are going to take on a house wife, which in itself is stupid to do immediately do upon marriage.

but u are trying to buy a good ring without her help or anyone elses. and u may not have much in the bank and still make a decent check.

but marriage and its success isnt all about money.

he has her help and together they can figure things out and as long as they love each other. things will be ok even if they struggle a little at first

you people should learn to read and think

financially stable != rich, money in the bank etc.

it means, you have some money, some type of consistent income, a career/plan, aren't in deep debt, with no way to pay it off, getting married (and everything that goes with it, ie rings) won't completely ruin you, etc. it means you are financially stable not rich and not broke

the majority of divorces are over money problems

i mean, it might be nice to say you and your sigother can live off of love power, but that isn't gonna cut it for most couples-

What if the woman makes more money than the guy? That might mean he would have trouble buying a ring (especially if he wanted to buy a nice one) but money wouldn't be as much of a concern once married.

Obviously we don't have all the facts here.
