I've read that you can only install on two machines at any time. Yet some people claim you can do as many as you want. I am looking to buy a copy for the PCs in my lab and I am confused as fuck over MS's stupid licensing policies.

Also....should I stay with 2003 or switch to 2007. Keep in mind 1/2 the machines in the lab are Macs using Office 2004.

1 retail license key = 1 license.

i think you can install it on multiple computers, but only one copy can be used at a time. not sure if this is still the case or not, but it used to be.

the only keys with multiple licenses are the ones that come in the action pack subscription, msdn subscription, or a VLK through software assurance

The intention is that you are allowed to install your copy of office on your Desktop and your Laptop ... they modified their licensing policy so individuals were not being forced to buy two copies of Office for their own personal use if they decided to have 2 machines that they used at different times.

if this is an educational lab, ncsu has an MS select agreement and you can get a single site copy for ~$60. office teacher/student edition is a 3 site license but costs ~$120. regular retail is essentially a 1 site license. I would whole heartedly recommend 2k7 over 2k3
