i'm cool with it... no joke i'm even down with maintenance.

i mean i sorta play with fans as a job but i really think that would be cool

fans don't cool they stir/heat if anything

i'm sure i could convert it to a belt drive or something... i just like pretty metal pulleys.

i figured this thread would suck as soon as i read the words "chapel hill", but i gave it a chance.

i should have gone with my gut feeling on this one.

if im not mistaken, you are talking about the fans at "The streets of southpoint"

iirc, they are belt drive, with what appeared to be leather (just sayin). you can definitely see the joined part of the start/end of the belt.

you feel cold because of evaporative cooling

I always liked the fans at Stool Pigeons. They just wave back and forth like the old ones that were powered by slaves. Not very efficient, but they look awesome.

On a related note, anyone ever notice the fan in the beginning of irobot? They probably have had them for a while but I thought it was odd to have a fan with one blade and a counterweight.

I saw an episode of Monster House where they gave a guy a NASCAR house and all of the ceiling fans ran off of one motor and a bunch of engine belts.

Possibly the most redneck thing ever.
