lol ok you got me but they were making it sound like a little bit of nitrogen added helps gas mileage and tire pressure

So if you crash into a lake, can you survive by breathing out of your tire?

if you have a race car and your pressure has to be dialed in +/- 1 atm

well its true, proper tire pressure helps gas mileage BUT what helps tire pressure most is a driver smart enough to check their own tire pressure.

nitrous oxide on the other hand is not so good for your tires

I would hope everyone would want their tire pressure dialed in a lot better than that considering thats almost 15 psi.

And besides, everyone knows Helium works better. Makes the car lighter, it's almost like one of those flying cars from the future.

^Lighter? Who gives a flying fuck if your car weighs a few pounds less on a scale if it still has the same inertial mass. If anything, the helium would work to reduce the normal force and traction.

nitrous oxide and rubber creates a very combustible fuel. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5226424/

only benefit is that it leaks out slower than air, good for slackasses who never check their tire pressure.

i thought the benefit was no moisture and changes pressure less with temperature changes

PV=nRT

P1+P2......=Pt

Ideal gas law and partial pressures, doesn't matter what gas it is or what mixture, it depends on the number of moles not composition for pressure increase due to temperature.

Big load of bullshit.

they put nitrogen in tires because it is dry, as oppose to air. n2 is less affected by temp changes, since there is no water in it to alter its density at different temperatures.

it's a similar principle why your car runs worse when it is humid outside. humid air is less dense than dry air (more lighter water molecules displacing heavier air molecules in a given volume), so your engine is getting less mass of air per volume at any given time. same reason why it runs like crap when it is hot outside. your MAF, ecu, 02 sensor and other indicators retard the timing accordingly.

Pretty sure he's the only douchebag that thought you were serious. He even tried to counter your obviously sarcastic remark very seriously saying helium would actually reduce traction due to lighter weight. HAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm laughering my ass off.

Oh shit! He's in electical engineering! THat explains everything!!! hahaaaaaaaaa

nitrous oxide goes in your intake manifold not in your tires f00l.

And you need to cut down the street, not across it f00l.

You want 1 atm in your tire yo when you do wheelies...

I rely on compressed fartgas to fill my tires. The look on the tire changing guy's face is PRICELESS when he breaks the beads.

^ ROFL. I used to work at Party City and often filled balloons and exchanged cylinders. We had to chain the Helium cylinders down because they had so much helium in there they would float away.

i've never tried it, but i know a lot of people run water in their front tires on off road only trucks. pretty much all of the pro rockcrawlers run water too. helps them climb a lot better and keeps the front end down.

^^ you can buy a fitting that goes on a water hose. most people who do any kind of real work with their tractors put water in the tires.
