A friend's dad asked me to put him in touch with someone at NCSU that has significant web design experience. He is a middle-aged professional and he and his partner are looking to build a new site to replace their old one. He mentioned that they want a built-in content management solution that they can easily update going forward, and password protected folders for various clients. He also mentioned that he has heard about some kind of Apple website design solution that he is interested in using (not sure what this would be).

Is anyone potentially interested in something like this or know if there is any group at NCSU such as in the design school that would want to take on something like this?

Since I don't know many of the details, it would probably be best if you PM me contact info and he / his partner will get in touch with you.

Thanks.

Ask him if he has minimum $5k to spend on this. Otherwise, he probably wont get what hes looking for at NCSU, and should just contract someone to do it for him.

I suggest Odesk, it has a great project / contractor tracking feature that makes these types of things easy to accomplish with trust that the project will actually get finished.

And make sure he is prepared with exactly what he wants defined on paper, and is willing to pay for what is exactly specified on that paper, no more, no less.

Thats a good start for you.

i'd be willing to help work on it, but don't think i have the spare time to entirely do something that size right now

p.s. http://drupal.org/ is a free CMS lots of people seem to use (i've only had some passing experience on it so can't really recommend/not recommend it

The point is:

he may not be aware of the coding/work that will have to go into something this large scale.

it's not as simple as downloading a template.

this is a full project, and you need either 1 guy that can do the work of an entire web dev team (code, design, dev) or a team of dudes.

If he wants to scale it down to something in the $1-3K range, I can try to do that. He's probably not going to like the alternatives, though. they wont be as seamless.

I have a team available that can do all the back end and I would do all the CSS/design stuff. But as stated above....what is his budget?

If he is interested....

2-6k would be appropriate.

I will have some openings in my schedule if he is still interested. I have a portfolio.

there's plenty of free cms systems out there, but then again, it requires knowledge and time to modify them to be more personalized with the features you friend's dad wants. I'd also suspect a price range between 2-10k depending on the level of complexity is involved.
