sucks if you havent had 40% of the courses that cover the material
but if you are good at math you can ace that and just do semi-well on the rest

Yeah...
Tomorrow is one of those here goes nothing kind of days. To make it more fun, my insulin pump broke this afternoon, so I get to try some new medication the emergency dept at Duke called in for me. Never used this brand of stuff in my life, hopefully I don't have a seizure tomorrow. 10/26/2007 9:41:32 PM |

nuclear, it might be a bit of a challenge but you should be fine

yeah i wasn't sure what NE had to take
i know my ECE knowledge prepared me for the math, physics, electrical, and statics (took it to fill an elective) parts of the test and that was pretty much it
i spent about an hour or two every other day for a month studying and doing practice problems for it 10/26/2007 9:48:23 PM |

I would just like to say now, anyone that knows me, my amazing ability to have Failabeetus at the last minute has succeeded again!
I'm verifying my medication is working and that my blood sugar is on its way down before i go to sleep, or else I may never wake up. So much for a good night's sleep before the exam.
Here goes nothing I suppose...
Ahaha son of a bitch I just checked my blood sugar and it's about 60 points lower than it should be. I'm not used to doing this without my insulin pump any more... So TWW looks like I'm staying up for another hour until I can see what is going to happen to meeeeeeee...

Since I'm bored and diabeetusy right now, here's some pics of the damage and the quick fix I did to hold me over for about 7 hours until I got some Lantus insulin.
The black thing in that picture, if pushed on from side to side, puts huge forces on the two caps that are holding it down. That's why that thin little twisty track thing broke on both sides over time (poor engineering).
My dearly departed pump. You lasted about 2.5 years then finally decided to die. What a night you chose too you $4000 pile of dog shit.
Sigh...

I still don't know what FE is? 10/27/2007 12:36:07 AM |
Mindstorm All American 15858 Posts user info edit post |
Fundamentals of Engineering exam. It's a precursor to the Professional Engineering (or engineer or whatever) exam.
You take it so you can prove you're not an idiot as an engineer and that you deserve your degree for your major. Then you work under some professional engineers at a company getting a variety of design and field experience so you can, four years later, get your professional engineering "certification". This means you get your own stamp as a registered NC engineer so you can approve designs and shit. It's worth a modest pay boost and it's a nice way to distinguish yourself. 10/27/2007 12:39:55 AM |

oh, ok. So its like a bunch of math problems? 10/27/2007 12:42:58 AM |
Mindstorm All American 15858 Posts user info edit post |
Sort of.
It's a whole lot of design problems spanning across every field of engineering. The first section is 4 hours and 120 questions. This is a general section covering a little bit of every part of engineering you could think of like statics, mechanics, circuits, thermodynamics, etc. The second section you specify what you're going to take. Either general or civil or EE or whatever. The second section is a bit harder, more "work it out" type problems. You only have to get like 45-55% to pass and it's relative to everybody else who has taken the test as to whether you pass with a certain percentage. Honestly showing 55% competency means you're fully competent in statics and mechanics but maybe you suck at thermo and are Ok at circuits and blow balls at everything else. Or it could mean you're a jack of all trades and are good at a little bit of everything in every field of engineering. 10/27/2007 12:54:31 AM |
