So here is the problem, we have had roadrunner in our apartment for over a month now, and about a week ago, it started disconnecting, reconnecting, etc etc, and sometimes not reconnect for awhile. Called TWC and they said everything with the connect and stuff looks fine and the only problem could be the modem and that I just need to get it replaced. So I took it to the store on Sat. and got a new modem, and the same problem is happening again.

Any ideas of what the problem is? Becasue according to TWC now everything should be working, yet it isnt. I still have my appiontment for the tech to come out on tuesday, initially to replace the modem, but now that I got the new modem idk what they are going to be able to do.

When this happened to me it was due to a bad trap.

click on Signal.

copy and paste that page here so we can help you.

for example, here's mine:

Any idea what some "good" values should be? We've been having signal strength issues in our neighborhood lately and I still don't think it's right.

Downstream Value
Frequency 609000000 Hz
Signal To Noise Ratio 30.7 dB
Power Level -8.7 dBmV

Upstream Value
Channel ID 2
Frequency 33008000 Hz
Power 36.5 dBmV

That signal-to-noise ratio is pretty sick. No wonder my road runner sucks. I'm nowhere near 30 dB.

my cable company down here in SC is TERRIBLE.

my ping to vent servers, games, etc. is <100 all the time which is fine. And downloads are fine too.

But loading ANY webpage, even google or TWW, it hangs up and takes dial up like time to load and very often will just time out trying to connect to webpages and I have to refresh several times. Ive talked to them several times about it and theyve come out and looked and looked on their end and said there are no problems.

Im gonna look at hte link you posted tonight when I get home

downstream SNR should be 30 or more

downstream power should be between -8 and 8 dBmV

upstream snr should be 30 or more

upstream power should be less than 55 dBmV

it looks like your upstream power level is the problem, ncsu919. this number is basically how hard your modem is working to send a signal back to Time Warner. you've probably got a bad line somewhere in the circuit. have them drop a new line from the distro box to your house. if that doesn't do it, have them run a new line directly to your modem.

hmm. all these problems started once it started storming here around state. i live in an apartment, not sure if that affects it in anyway, but how hard is it for them to determine that that is the problem and actually go about fixing it, b/c everytime i call and tell them whats going on, they tell me everything looks fine right now, and im like yeah it is but randomly during the day it goes out and almost always at night for the remainder of the night.

^ When the trap on my line went bad it would crap out randomly. The only reason the technician figured it out is because he decided to be thorough and double check the signal readings. He was lucky enough to catch it in the act of being crappy. He replaced the trap and all was well.

if a line gets nicked while landscapers are for instance, aerating the lawn, this kinda of thing can happen - getting the wire from the distro box to your place replaced is your best move, after that, replace the wires you are using in your house (internal, and external) if needed.
