Makes you wonder why Mel Stottlemyre didn't wait and join them instead of going to Seattle.

It's now official, and a 3 yr deal.

no real article, but it's a link to appease people: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/baseball/mlb/11/01/torre.dodgers.ap/index.html

there's worse news

According to a press release from the Tigers, Joel Zumaya underwent surgery on Wednesday after being injured moving personal items to protect them from the Southern California fires. Zumaya had an AC joint reconstruction performed on his pitching shoulder at the Scripps Clinic in San Diego. The press release says that Zumaya will be out until mid-season, though there are no good comps for this type of injury to this type of pitcher. More information as it becomes available.

Is A-rod worth 30 M to anyone??? He'll be 32 1/2 once spring training starts, and hasn't done anything in October with the Yankees, I'd rather take two up and comers and pay them 15M a year than this April-Sept. phenom.

Torre backs his word up when he said the deal with the Yankees wasn't about the money, the first player in sports to actually mean this when they say it, I hope the dodgers when the pennant.

The hiring of Torre is the first meaningful event for the Dodgers in 19 years, 2 days and 15 hours.

somebody was telling me that some Yankees players were going to follow him to play for the Dodgers...which makes sense...but one of the names they mentioned was Posada...which doesn't make sense...since Russell Martin is a beast

Unless you hear that the Dodgers have signed anyone then it is all pure conjecture. He has a chance to catch some great young pitchers next year (Joba, Ian, and Phil) so I doubt he is going anywhere...

ARod wont' get 32 mil... the rangers were paying a portion of his contract with the yankess and that's a key reason why the yankess would've done an extension with him (the rangers would've been helping for 3 more years) instead being a part of his free agency.

If the yankees won't buy him, nobody will at 32m. Boris done fucked up. (cue mustard pic)

I think what will be interesting is to see how Mattingly manages the Dodgers in 3-4 years compared to how Girardi will be doing.

The Dodgers made a great move b/c now (stolen from The Herd) you have a really big name in LA baseball that can win championships. And he's good for atleast one free bobblehead night.

And Torre will look great as a manager next year b/c the Dodgers finished dead last with a rather decent team. He can make them win the division, and depending if Girardi fails or not, can make the Yankees front office look stupid w/o breaking a sweat.
