My namesake needs resurrection, fellas. 1979 Datsun 280ZX...stripped down, nothing unnecessary. I do need a couple of body parts:

Hood.
Front bumper cover. Somebody fucked mine up with careless use of a wrecker sling.

Engine gotta be pulled and a few things fixed here and there. I need a new header; the one that's on there fits very shittily indeed.

I know somebody is gonna say something. Like I said this two years ago. Maybe I'll say it in another two years.

No offense man, but older Z cars are pretty gay. Slow, heavy, and they look like a ripped off Ferrari or something. Swap an GM or Ford V8 in, then it'd be kinda cool.

Thought about doing a VH45DE, but I've not had the time or the money or the drive.

There will be no pushrod shit in my Z car.

No offense, but your taste in cars is not mine, and I kind of think your taste is GAY.

My Z is lighter than my Teg was. And it has six cylinders inline, the way God intended. With 3.90 gears, it was actually pretty damn fast when I had it on the road.

My friend Rex's ITS 240. I don't know if he's put a new engine together for it or not.

My goal is to have a ZX (S130 chassis) that will hold its own in a shootout with the earlier S30 chassis cars. The rear suspension is supposedly inferior, but I'm not sure I totally buy that. Well, actually, it is, but it's fun doing more with less.

Ever seen anybody truly flog a 1st Gen D16 Integra and keep up with VTEC Bs? Maybe not on the straights, but in the corners...

What I did to the DZL...actually I did do a little of the work on it.

I entertained the thought, but I think Matt needs to get the VW done first. And I gotta finish ripping the old floorpans out of the VW.

vh45de would be hot as hell. too bad i got rid of my q45, it would have been a perfect donor after the timing chain guides broke.

VH45DE isn't a bad idea, but making it fit in an S130 chassis is a little more work than an S30. Steering geometry tends to get in the way and shit.

Probably the same reason I'm craving a liquor drink right now.

WE ARE A BUNCH OF GODDAMN ALCOHOLICS.

Better temper that urge, man...bad things will result if ya don't. Trust me on this one. I figure I might have to dry out in another couple of months.

l26? didn't they only make that for like one year? I'm surprised anyone even messes with those motors

anyway, plan to devote a full saturday every weekend for the next 6 months to get this running. if you can't commit 5-8 hours of wrench time a week then just shelve the idea. shit always takes longer than you think, especially since that car hasn't run in what, 10 years?

Sorry. I have to laugh.

A couple more beers, bong hits, and an 8 lb sledge hammer repeatedly to the head and I just might be on your level.

60's/early 70's coupes had such an awesome shape, something about it just makes me love them. I.e.:
1962–1964 Ferrari 250 GTO
1967-1970 Toyota 2000GT
1969-1978 Datsun 240Z

The Datsun just happens to be common enough for a normal person to own, while being damned good looking. I say go for it, Dan

Never been much into Z cars, what is the difference between Z and ZX cars?

Z was built between '70 and '78. Primarily characterized by its rear suspension with Chapman struts and lateral lower control arms.

Slightly smaller and tighter all around than the ZX, which was built from '79 to '83 in the S130 chassis designation. These cars utilize a trailing arm suspension like you've seen in first and second gen Supras and a whole bunch of other Japanese RWD platforms, including its younger sibling, the Z31. The cars are plusher, with more interior room and appointments, and have a softer suspension. They're more of a grand touring car than a sporting car. My '79 is so stripped down though, that it's the lightest of all the ZXs and even some of the later Zs.

Screw Dennis Gage.

First things first. I need a trailer at my disposal. The big first thing is this: I've got to have a way to move the damn car around where I need it, as I'm sure there are not many places I can keep it permanently (and cheaply).

Next: Engine has to come out so I can re-index the oil pump drive shaft, pull the head and drill out a broken stud, and reset the valvetrain geometry (too many shims under the cam towers now, and the valve lash pads are too thin. Oh...and the header needs to go. It doesn't fit for shit. I need a new one. I'd like to go ahead and throw some flattop pistons in there too while I'm in there, but in reality, it doesn't need to happen. That's how the car got completely dismantled. One thing led to another...

Toyed with the idea of Clubman Twin racing about 8 years ago or so. I'd still toy with it if I had enough disposable income. I need something to focus on in my spare time.

I've always wanted to race...badly. I've come to the conclusion that it really needs to happen, because I'm not getting any younger, and it depresses the fuck outta me having not done some of the things I've always wanted.
