talked with the guy the other day. somehow, the subject of flue shots came up.

he then went on a 7 minute rant about how he refuses to get a flu shot because he doesn't trust the government to stick him with any needles, blah blah blah

While a flu shot cannot give you the flu, it can trigger a pretty severe immune response in some people which can put you in bed for a day or two. For example, if I get a Tetanus shot, I'll be running a fever within 8 hours. After I got my shots before I came to college, I was in bed the whole next day with a 100 degree fever. I've had this type of reaction to certain vaccinations my while life. However, this kind of reaction is rather rare. Most people are just paranoid.

With the flu shot you get a cold for 365 days a year. You can't get the flu because you constantly have a cold.

The one time I got a flu shot was the one time I got the flu, and otherwise I had avoided getting any communicable diseases that year.

I don't see any reason not to, unless you're one of the small minority that is allergic, or unless you're just a big pussy and don't like needles.

I got mine, didn't even feel it, and I think it's worth it even if it only might prevent you from getting the flu, because I don't have time for that shit.

You're too young - your immune system needs to fight off things like the flu at this age so when you're finally old enough to warrant getting the shot your immune system won't be so weak that you are constantly getting sick.

i have a pdf at home on the negatives of flu shot. possibly leads to number of disorders.

i know a lot of things have chemicals. i tend to keep my body clean, at least i try to. i know its impossible to.

ill try to find the pdf file. its just an informative thing.

i know there could be more + things than -.

Also, I always *get* the flu (or something that feels like it) the day after I get the shot WTF is that about?

maybe someone can elaborate more on this...

but usually vaccines tend to have small amounts of whatever they are fighting, in them, so you can build tolerance.

you dont get the flu from a flu shot, but you get some symptoms. some could be allergic reactions.

[Edited on November 1, 2007 at 1:12 PM. Reason : seems like it would be the case with the flu. ]

flu shots have completely killed versions of the flu virus, so i would think any reactions are probably allergic rather than 'flu-like' if the virus is dead and cannot be passed to anyone else.

Something to think about for people who fear needles, the nasal spray version of the flu virus is actually weakened live virus and can, rarely, be passed to others just from getting teh vaccine.
