Timbaland feat. OneRepublic - Apologize
i wondered the same thing 11/2/2007 8:32:06 AM |

b/c Timbaland just produced nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake's albums - produced a bunch a singles that are getting crazy rplay right now (like 50 cent's ayo technology) - so basically, he's a bigger name and everyone will end up getting more money for it?
That's my guess, i'm by no means an expert on the subject 11/2/2007 8:34:55 AM |
Madman All American 3412 Posts user info edit post |
seems like they are purposely blurring the line between "producer" and "artist" titles
I bet a lot of it is just so it will get airplay on rap/r&b stations 11/2/2007 8:36:31 AM |

that's what I figured.
OneRepublic is pretty good, they have another song I really like. But if it wasn't for someone sending me their music I would have never heard of them. Attaching Timbaland's name to the track automatically gives it 100x more street cred then it would have gotten with just OR's name.
what ever happened to Magoo?

I just think it's gay that the people SINGING THE SONG are "featured" in timbaland's song 11/2/2007 8:38:39 AM |

You dont' think a producer might have worked harder on the song that the singers? This happens sometimes, you have no idea what was going on in that studio! 11/2/2007 8:40:51 AM |

doesn't mean he didn't do more work than they did..
that being said, I agree that it's weird he gets credit when he's barely in the song 11/2/2007 8:48:11 AM |
terpball All American 22489 Posts user info edit post |
he isn't barely in the song - every sond other than OneRepublic is Timbaland's sound
Even their voices are augmented by his programs
Stop trying to act like you're a music expert - you weren't in the studio, you don't know, so why the fuck are you trying to make an argument either way?
The end result is it's Timbaland ft OneRepublic - they did it that way for a reason (most likely) 11/2/2007 8:56:27 AM |

but i do agree, there is a justified reason behind it and obviously OR didn't have a problem with it.
is there a clear answer? probably. but we don't have it.
/thread, hopefully

i think its really gay how he took that awesome song AcidJazzed Evening
and sampled it for that gay song Block Party

I'll add what I know because I had some weird connection with the band.
I was living in LA in 2005 and had a girl roommate named Tiffany who had rich parents and she didn't have to work. One day, she told me that she was hired as "assistant manager" for a band called Republic. She was working for a big dude named Marcus, who was their manager. He was also Timbaland's nephew. The band had no money whatsoever and were living off of gigs with 100 attendees and 5 bands playing. For 2 months, the guitarist Drew stayed on our couch because he couldn't even afford rent. I left LA in late 2005 and they had just signed a small deal with Velvet Hammer.
I heard the song about a year ago on One Tree Hill and called my old roommate to see what was up. She emailed me saying that Timbaland had fronted a ton of money and he was going to be producing a bunch of tracks, but since he put up the cash he wanted them to be on his album if they had a song that hit it big so he'd get a bigger cut.
I haven't talked to her or the guitarist since then. It's pretty funny to me because I saw the band like 10 times and there was never more than 100 people. I thought they sounded just like Coldplay.11/2/2007 9:31:02 AM |

i saw this somewhere and got mad. the song has been out for a year, and it's only getting attention now? and not even giving the band who does it full credit? it should say One Republic feat. Timbaland, if anything.

the song by itself is unimpressive. the reproduced version by timbaland, makes it complete.
listening to them back to back, the orig. sounds hollow in comparison.

it's not about which version is better, it's the fact that this band had a song out for months and timbaland comes along, adds a few things, and puts his name first. that'd be like a well-known author taking a book by some unknown author, changing a few character names or something, and putting it back out under both their names. just say 'One Republic feat Timbaland' and it'd be fine, in my opinion. just give credit where it's due. i mean i'm glad it's getting the band more attention, but come on. 11/3/2007 1:20:56 AM |

yeah but if what sd2nc has to say is true, and that was the deal.../shrug
i think the intro beat, which last through at least the first verse or so, is extremely more catchy and what not than the piano. i don't see how timbaland made it "complete" as if it wasn't already a decent enough (yet pretty much unheard of) song.
