Use them to decide whether certain users should be made a mod.

like DNL for study hall mod

Make the poll a submitted item, like the joke of the day and events.

it'd be kind of cool if users could submit polls....like each Sunday night a new poll from some user is put up.

definitely restrict the ability to submit polls to users who have >10,000 posts or some similar number, and probably limit it to premium users as well. there has to be incentives to pay up, right?

SO... Heres my suggestion:

-- everyone who's eligible (premium users >"x" number of posts) can submit one poll idea before a deadline every week.

-- moderators then can vote to include or exclude the submitted polls to an "approved" group in some manner.

-- finally, one poll is randomly selected from the approved group, and put up for a week.

second thought 10,000 is too high. 5,000 or 1,000 would be more reasonable. def not less than 1000 tho.

But I was thinking more along the lines of helping to approve the polls. And helping to clean up the actual poll thread when people do crap like break it, or embed some disgustingly loud and annoying .swf
