I love TCM. I know a few of you kids do as well. So here's a thread for TCM.
It's guest programmer month, and Neil LaBute is choosing films tonight: Ace in the Hole This Sporting Life Manhattan The 400 Blows
If you haven't at least seen the last two, you definitely should. I'm breaking out my TiVo for Ace in the Hole 'cause Billy Wilder is awesome.
They even got Alton Brown (Nov 11th), Matt Groening (Nov 14th), Kermit the Frog (Nov 21st: aww, he picked Singin' in the Rain), Mark Mothersbaugh (Nov 29th) and Martha Stewart (Nov 30th) to pick films this month!

If you think Manhattan is old, then yes, they're basically all old.
The only newer ones I saw on anyone's programmer list were On Golden Pond, Withnail & I, and Movers and Shakers. 11/7/2007 5:48:41 PM |

Maybe I saw it on Encore. If so, I apologize.
TCM and Encore are the only two commercial-free movie channels that I receive, and Last Temptation is a classic - so I could see myself doing that. I definitely DVRed it though. 11/7/2007 7:55:04 PM |

^ With Orson Welles?
I began to watch that, but stopped shortly thereafter. I do, however, have F for Fake permanently saved from when it came on TCM. 11/7/2007 8:06:02 PM |

^^ Hahahaha, I taped that. I like that they used Kafka's parable at the beginning, and the movie does at least have that extremely absurdist feel to it. But overall, I don't know that Welles is the best guy to have done a Kafka adaptation: it still felt off. 11/7/2007 8:07:24 PM |

I remember when AMC wasn't owned by turner, and they competed with the same quality as tcm
AMC might as well be now what tbs and tnt used to be. 2/4/2008 10:48:37 PM |

yeah I wish I had TCM. Very rarely does AMC have something good on. If Catwoman is an American movie classic then I'm moving to Canada. Some of the stuff they play is horrible. 2/5/2008 9:41:25 AM |

We've been on a TCM kick the last year or two, trying to watch a lot of older stuff that we've never seen, and often never heard of (usually not too old, mostly from the late 60 to earl 80s). And honestly a good bit of it really isn't worth watching, but we've definitely been turned-on to some good stuff. Two that I'm remembering immediately are Robert Duvall in 1983's Tender Mercies, and 1973's Scarecrow with Al Pacino & Gene Hackman.
I hate that they cancelled TCM underground, we learned about a lot of good, weird, obscure stuff on that.
If you love film, you should be worried about what's going on at Turner Classic Movieshttps://www.npr.org/2023/06/28/1184544944/tcm-turner-classic-movies-david-zaslav 7/3/2023 4:13:43 PM |

Yep. Sounds like they didn't get rid of the Head of Programming (at the moment anyways)
Sound like Scorsese, Spielberg and Paul Thomas Anderson are TRYING to keep it from completely capsizing, but I dunno... not sure if they have the real means to keep a network afloat.
