Do you keep track at all? I was trying to answer that question and also see how much less I would spend if I got a more fuel efficent car...ended up making a spreadsheet cause I was bored.

You can view it here

If you want to put in your own numbers and see how much you spend you can download it here

I think I currently spend a little under $3,000 per year in gas.

How much do you spend?

i don't really keep track but i make about 1 trip to the gas station each month, which is never over $30, usually about $25-27. when we go to the beach or raleigh or somewhere, that's extra gas...so i'm going to say maybe 10 extra trips...

so, (12*27) + (10*27) = $594

i live in a small town and less than a mile from work. i drive a 2006 honda civic.

If I take how much I spent last month and do an average, thats like 1800-2000 a year.

I get 28 miles/gallon and fill up about 5 times a month if I don't leave Raleigh.

Scooter:
($3/week)*(52 weeks) = $156

Car:
($50/month)*(12 months) = $600

Total:
$750 a year (give or take)

Very rough estimate of $2100 for the past year, but it's hard to guess at my average mpg because the highway and city for my car are pretty far apart (usually 14-15 mpg city, 22-23 highway) and I'm not really sure how to get an accurate split of city/highway percentage of total miles traveled.

Sigh.

since march I've spent an average of ~$150/month on gas, and I don't really do any out of the ordinary driving, mostly school and back.

In a year, easily 17-1800 bucks

first guess: ( 10000mpy / 14mpg ) * 3usd/gal = $2142.86/yr

i fill up every 3 weeks - 28g * 3usd = $84
52 / 3 = 17.33 * $84 = $1500/yr.

i guess i just don't ever drive my tahoe. i drive 15 miles per day average.

15m/day * 365 = only 5475m/year = 391 gallons per year = $1200/yr

example of how i can get 3 completely different estimates

I pay around $1200/year for gas, and I drive around 12000 miles/year. Luckily, my car gets around 30 mpg.

Damn. And I thought I knew someone who used a lot of gas (works in Greensboro, lives in Raleigh). He certainly doesn't spend $800/month though.

I was spending $300-400/month during extended boating season... Citicards with Gas rebates add up freaking quick... My truck got 13mpg and was my daily driver and then my boat ate 4GPH pulling people and we would run 3-4 hours 2-3x's a week...

but now I drive ~400miles/month and get 36mpg ($400/year)...

quite a change (I LOVE my civic)

Whenever I ask people about gas mileage 50% simply quote what the sticker on the car said. I actually break out a calculator each time i fill up. I have a 92 civic and the last 3 tanks were 37,38, and 39.2 (most recent so i remember to the decimal place). I drive 50/50 highway city with alot of stop and go traffic after work.

The s2000 on the other hand.....

i won't spend money on gas for the next 7 years (company car for the winnnn)

I don't drive a lot, so a tank lasts forever - but at $58-$65 per tank, it still feels like a ton of change.

I'd say $1300ish +/- 200

I drive about 18000 miles per year in my Jeep Wrangler, which lets say gets 18 mpg, equates to 1000 gallons of gasoline. If we say an average price of $2.70, that would be $2700.

I drive about 26,000 miles/year and get 33mpg, so thats 788 gallons of gas at $3 (?) each is ~$2,300.

I don't even drive a "gas guzzler"... that sounds like a lot of gas.

when I was driving mostly highway I was getting 36-40mpg

now driving mostly city I get 32-36mpg if I shift at 2kRPM's and never floor it for the entire tank it makes 2-3mpg difference...

Since I'm a bike commuter, and my car makes a pretty lawn ornament most of the time, I'd say I spend not even
$30/month for average use (driving from Durham to Raleigh and back to see the boy, and hauling bikes.).

However, I do drive for road trips, probably spend $100 a few times a year on those.

I spend about $60-70/month (equiv. of two tanks) on gas b/c I don't drive too much outside of Raleigh, but I do drive. So I guess around $720-840 a year.

I can fill up for no more than $30 roughly every 2 weeks. So I guess no more than $720 yearly on fuel.

I drive a Chevy Aveo5 if anybody cares. It gets around 29 mpg on average. Its also one of the cheapest priced cars on the market too. Great little car, has a built in mp3 player which I thought was awesome.
