or is this breaking the law just the store worker be be buy selling it to them; if an adult friend of a minor buys an m-rated for them, would this be distributing to minor just the same as buying them alcohol; if i let my little cousin play an m-rated demo am i criminal?

Its the stores responsibility right?

Kind of like kids under 18 who smoke, they never get in trouble, they just can't buy their own cigs.

As I understand it, video game rating enforcement is an agreement between the ESA and retailers. The law isn't involved in any way, shape, or form.

I think some states have laws in place about selling games to minors, but IIRC it still only places responsibility on retail employees.

I think of it as similar to a parent taking their child to an R-rated movie. It's about like that.

of course not, as the whole point of restricting m-rated game sales is so that parents can monitor what their child buys.
