so the family is toying with the concept of taking a break from the massive holiday meal this year, and maybe going to a nice restaurant, nothing super swank, but not some hole-in-the-wall chineese restaurant, something along the lines Angus Barn perhaps. (I already checked, they're closed that day)

They use the day to get a jump start on their taxes, balance their check books, and thoroughly read ads for the next day's shopping.

i'm not opposed to the ethnic cuisine myself but i dont think it'd fly with the older relatives in the family. hopefully we'll find something along the lines of a steak house or seafood restaurant thats moderately nice. crowleys is the most promising prospect we have ATM, im gonna give them a ring in the morning to get the final verdict on their hours.

Also, since I have worked at a couple of restaurants, I wouldn't eat out on Christmas Day simply out of principle. No one wants to be at work that day. If you're a doctor or a policeman then thats one thing. But no cook, waiter, or hostess should have to work on that day.

In high school I worked at a Subway owned by a Muslim family. They were always open on Christian holidays. They never needed us to work them, and the other employees never minded covering the Muslim holidays.

True. The idea is you're looking for the cuisine of people who generally don't celebrate Christmas or don't celebrate it when American Christians do. Steak? Generally hard to get. General Tso's Chicken? Easy.

You could probably find an open deli.

I don't visit most businesses (restaurants, movie theaters, etc.) on Christmas. I wouldn't want to work on Christmas, so I try my best not to make other people work on Christmas either.

I'd make an exception if it was a small business and I knew Christmas had no meaning to the people working there.

but you'll go to Wal*Mart on Sunday right?

what about people forced to work the Sabbath?

somewhere in the bible, it is prescribed that they must be stoned to death.

honestly people, thats the nature of retail and public service, you've gotta make yourself available when there's a need for your services. I did 7 years in retail myself, so I've worked more than m fair share of holidays.
