http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5723662

Asking for 150.

Post bids on here or PM me.

this did just sell for $100 at walmart, but I assume its not available for that anymore...so its probably worth more than $100 if its still factory sealed.

is it still factory sealed?

EL OH EL! this is a $99 player with 5 shitty movies. Anyone that pays more than $75 for this junk is an idiot! Especially since the other HD DVD deals are a lot better with 10 free movies and a newer player.

and its pre-owned. I don't care if you haven't used it yet or not but no one will pay more than what you paid at the store, n00b.

$40

I went to best buy & walmart for this specific HDDVD player and they were all selling for $99, but the product is discontinued and they sold them all. It's hard to even find this one for sale anymore b/c everyone is pushing the new A3's on the market.

Also the 5 free DVDs are not your choice, so it's not quite as awesome as it sounds.

Anyhoo, i'll make a bid on here

oh, and if this is the one at bestbuy that was the open item that had no remote control, box, or instruction manual, forget it.

There is not much different from the Toshiba HD-A2 and the Toshiba HD-A3. They're both 1080i players (which is fine if you have a 1080i TV. The last of these were pushed out last christmas, on sale. The higher end TVs from last fall, and anything this year is probably 1080p).

This plays HD DVD movies, not Blu-ray movies. Highdefdigest.com has a good summary of which movies are Blu-ray exclusives (e.g. Live Free Or Die Hard, Ratatouille, Superbad, Pirates, Rent)

if you've got a tv/projector that can de-interlace well, then the whole 1080p shit makes little to no difference

...however if your tv sucks at it, then you should probably upgrade that shit before thinking about needing any 1080p player

and further, just because something got put on sale in extremely limited quantities and your ass was too slow to get one doesnt mean you get to have it for that sale price or less when you buy one new from another seller.....good try though

sure it does. It means no one will bid on his shit knowing it was an old product that is discontinued.

i get the argument, but we're not talking about a discontinued product thats completely different from the one that's replaced it...

I'm not defending any specific prices he decides to set, just that you can't even get the ones that are discontinued for that cheap simply because of a 2 or 3 hour one-time sale

^^Because this isn't like buying a PS3/Xbox360/Wii and selling it on ebay because of supply issues. This is me going to Wal-Mart and buying a up-converting DVD player on clearance and then selling it on here for more than what I paid for. He's trying to be smart but failed miserably.

Agreed. Just because something WAS on sale for $100, does not mean you can still actually get it for $100. An items value is not dependent on the price paid for it..he could have bought it for $50 on a super sale and that wouldn't make it worth any less.

Whats it going to be after BF?

You're right...but I'll say again that the price he paid doesn't determine the value of it. If its only worth $100 because you can get it elsewhere for $150, then thats something. But its not automatically worth half the price of the next version of the player...just because 1/2 has a nice ring to it.

^the reason it was a super sale was to get rid of the stock and make room for the new stuff. Like I said, if he bought a Xbox360 or PS3 for $100 then this thread is legit. But since he bought something discontinued its dumb to think anyone will pay more than what he paid for it.

And the tradition of BlackFriday with Best buy is the stuff that goes on super sale usually end up being that price permanently not long after. Soon after they started selling cheapo laptops for $400-500 on BF they started selling them as low everyday prices.

Since you didn't answer the question, I'm going to assume that you can't actually buy a new HD DVD player for $100. I've seen them for $200, but not $100. If the cheapest you can guy this player for is ~$200 then its obviously worth more than $100. If you could get it for $140ish then maybe it would only be worth $100.

your comparison to a gaming console that was released 6 years ago is pointless.

The A2 is the superior of the two players though. The A2 sends TOSLINK audio at 1.5mbps vs 640 kbps for the A3, has 2 USB slots vs 1 for the A3 and has a better remote.

Just because they're outta stock doesn't automatically make them worth something. They're only worth what a person will pay for them, and so far the highest offer is 75$, therefore it is worth 75$

Who made that argument? And they're not out of stock, they're still available nearly everywhere (for the time being).

Its worth $75?? Because its been listed for sale on a college website(read: full of cheap asses) for less than 24 hours? I LOVE your logic.

Now if you want to argue that its probably not sealed...and it doesn't sound like it is..and it not being sealed makes it worth $75 or $100 then you would have a point. But assuming its still sealed, I assure you it will go for more than $75.

You need to crack open some books and read up on how an auction works (and it's stretching it to even consider TWW classifieds like this one as actual auctions)

You're simply making the seller an offer of the highest price you would pay, he's not bound in any way to accept that offer.

In a real auction that has people other than cheap asses like yourself trying to swindle for the lowest deal possible, there's always going to be somebody there that wants it more....which is why this isn't a real auction, whoever's selling this thing has taken it elsewhere by now, and you're an ass who needs to read a fucking book before you open your mouth

^Yes so if he doesn't accept it, it's not worth anything except his personal enjoyment out of it.
And yes it is on a site with a bunch of cheapasses. That's where he decided to put it and test it's market value, so hence it doesn't matter what people elsewhere will pay for it, he didn't open it to them. And because an item is worth what one person will pay for it, and the highest someone is willing to take for it is 75$, it's worth 75$. Seriously, take some economics or something

and no I LOVE YOUR LOGIC.

No he's not bound by any mean to sell it. But if no one buys it, monetarilly it's not worth shit. Whoever wants it more will pay top dollar, you're right, But it's value on here is 75$ because no one else has bid higher. See your the dumbass and you need to go read a fucking book.

On TWW, sure it's probably worthless for him to sell it, just like any piece of electronics that someone expects to get top dollar for....you shouldn't bring an item to the classifieds here without 400 people who have knowledge of some random discount deal posting and then offering up low bids because of it.

While TWW might be the center of your universe, there are plenty of other buyers out there. While no one may want to pay more than 75-80 here, the value he as the seller places on an item (within reason) is what truly governs (otherwise the player would be gone already)...so if he values the player at more than $75 (i.e. $75 doesn't meet his reserve price), then he won't accept any offers (if TWW were the only place to sell something, or his reserve was something absurdly high, then of course he'd be foolish not to take the highest bid if he values the $$ over the possession of the player, but this isn't the case)

....you can have your wonderful theories of economics all you want, I prefer the authority of the black-letter law that actually governs this - namely the Uniform Commercial Code

the real point is good luck with the sale for whatever price you choose to sell it for

You proved my point for me, gg champ.

It had been 24 hours. How about we let the guys listing run for at least a few days before saying the value of his item is the highest bid hes received in 24 hours? That was the point.

And obviously I was right, as someone has already bid higher than the $75 you claimed its worth.

thanks to those who actually made productive responses. to those who tried to respond first with comments without research:

The HD-A2 has an update to allow it to play 1080p at 24Hz.
Yes, it was on sale for 100$, but you can't find it brand new in box anywhere now.
Yes, mine is brand new in box. I purchased 2, and use 1.
Just because something is discontinued, doesn't mean it's no longer good. This player allows for firmware updates to do just about anything any future HD-DVD players will do.

This is a post in the CLASSIFIED section, usually where people try to SELL things, not BITCH about an item they don't even plan to put a bid on. There really should be a section on TWW where people can just whine and moan about stupid crap.
