i don't think it was the "faggots" part that pwrstrkdf250 has an issue with as much as the "pretentious" part.

the texture doesn't have to be soggy. if you make sure to get most of the water out, fried tofu is crispy and takes on a pretty golden brown color

No, its garbage.

If you wanna be a vegetarian, don't try to make fake-meat products that tastes like meat...just eat fucking fruit and vegetables. If you're that desperate for meat-like products, you shouldn't have become a vegetarian in the first place."

answers that are acceptable to me

it just doesn't appeal to me texturally.
as a basic rule, i eat foods that taste good after being grilled, baked, or boiled with salt, and pepper.

It looks weird, feels weird in my hand and I don't want to put it in my mouth, and it is not meat. (I have never eaten it, but the texture is definitely a turn off.)

the key is to use extra firm and press it
I find that freezing it first then pressing it several times gives me my preferred texture

marinated for 20-40 minutes is the best way to infuse it with flavor
I find that longer than that makes it mushy

Study: Eating Soy May Decrease Sperm Count in Men
A new study found that men who eat just a half of serving of soy each day have much lower sperm counts than men who do not.

Quote :
"Dr. Jorge Chavarro and his colleagues at the Harvard Public School of Health in Boston investigated the effect soy-derived foods and isoflavones have on human semen quality and found that consumption of soy foods and isoflavones is linked to lower sperm concentration.

The findings were presented Monday at the 63rd annual Meeting of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine in Washington, D.C."

Occasionally, but not all that often. I don't always have it with breakfast - but always with lunch and supper. I guess certain things have caused me to believe that is mainly a meat substitute, and I think meat should nt be substituted. Never really thought much of it being an addition to meat.

I didn't know this was an argument, I thought the question was "What is it about tofu that makes you dislike it?" Not "Give reasons why you dislike it and defend it to snobs".

It was neither hypothetical nor antagonistic. I really did want to know.

So. Fucking. What

If you're trying to imply that eating tofu makes one less manly...well, the only folks concerned with not reducing their "manliness" are the ones who really do have something to worry about. It's a non-issue.

Quote :

For some people it is. I happen to quite enjoy meat. I eat tofu sometimes in addition to meat, and sometimes in lieu of meat.

Gonna have to try that.

FYI, I crumbled up some tofu yesterday to put on a salad, and used only olive oil, salt, and pepper, and it was fucking delicious.

freezing firm tofu makes it spongy and chewy

pressing the water out allows it to better soak up marinade

try grilling it (fresh or thawed,) in oil

using a counter-top grill (foreman, panini, waffle, etc.)

oh

and don't forget about extra soft tofu

used like yogurt, mayo, sour cream, whipped cream, ice cream, etc.

I like the grocery store-type tofu once it's been frozen, but I bought some from Grand Asia Market once and froze it, and it was literally like a kitchen sponge when I thawed it.

Yeah, and eating red meat can lead to heart disease. Eating in general can lead to obesity. The lesson here is moderation and avoiding excess of anything.

you definitely gotta press it. for a sandwich, I cut 2 thin slices and press with a paper towel to get the water out. then it fries up nice and crispy

news flash: lower sperm counts doesn't mean you're infertile. in the case of phytoestrogens from tofu, they merely lower your testosterone production and thus your sperm count.

I don't consider tofu to be a meat substitue taste-wise. probably the closest thing in taste is a grilled portobella mushroom. they have a very meaty taste

thanks fox news. the fates were conspiring against me. i had myself tested and soy consumption had very little, if any effect on motility or count.

i know i'm not infertile, but it would have been nice if soy had those "therapeutic" effects on my sperm count. my boys are too good at the backstroke apparently.
