but what are the possible culprit for a car that won't start but just clicks? battery has been replaced and all the connections are solid. the car will not turn over...just clicks. is this a starter issue? this is on a 1993 ford taurus.

This is just my experience, but I've found the whole tap the starter with a hammer trick works better if you have one person start tapping it and another person turn the key while you are tapping.

run a string between the starter and the engine. Tie something heavy to the end of the string. Yank on the string while cranking the car.

yeah i've done this twice. Both times i didn't have anybody to crank the car while i smacked the solenoid. I had to run the string around stuff so it wouldn't get caught.

It's pretty ghetto and not recommended though.

when you say starter, do you mean the ignitions switch? or the actual starter on the motor?

Starter motor/solenoid. It's just a remote control hammer.

unlikely, but we need more info. is the battery showing a full charge? if so, definitely starter.

well just hook some cables up to the car, if it starts then disconnect the battery. see what happens.

if it was battery, most likely it wouldnt click.

jesus people

1 verify the main power leads from the battery are still connected where they need to be on both ends.
2 clean the battery terminals and cable ends and put them back on tight
3 loadtest battery
4 either replace starter solenoid, starter contacts, or entire fucking starter
