^^oh yeah, more than sufficient
i've gone diving in 50 degree water (maybe colder than that at depth...50') with a 6.5mm regular wetsuit (plus hood and boots. took the gloves off because they were too restrictive. hands were of limited function after 25 minutes).
I have a 3mm Scubapro, myself.

I bought a Billabong Solution Gold thinking that the zipperless thing would be cool.
It's not cool.
Not cool at all. 11/15/2007 11:05:53 PM |

Tubdiving in my drysuit. Unfortunately I just sold it. It was a stock size large DUI TLS350, and was too big in the torso but too small in the calves. Plus it had rockboots and I need turbosoles for my big feet to fit into my XL Jets.
I'll have to buy a TLS350 Signature Series sometime soon (custom cut). There goes $2,500.
I have several wetsuits too. Going to toss on the Akona 6.5mm two-piece tomorrow for diving...

Easy to get in, very hard to get out solo. It's fine as long as I'm out on the boat and someone can pull it over my shoulders.
I have some pretty big/broad shoulders. I'm exactly the max height and about 5-10 pounds under the maximum weight for my suit so I knew it was going to be tight. When I first tried it on I thought I was going to have to call a friend to come help me out.

i think i'm gonna lean decidedly towards 2-pieces for my future wetsuit purchases. even my 3mm 1-piece is an asspain to take on and off.11/16/2007 12:49:48 AM |

Really? Damn, I hate two-piece wetsuits, especially that one. It's really tight and restrictive, and exhausting to put on. By the time it's on I'm usually too frustrated to dive. Oh well, I'll just deal with it tomorrow. 11/16/2007 12:51:28 AM |

As a followup -- went diving late this afternoon/early evening. Damn that was cold. Definitely need a new wetsuit, this one is slightly small. Fits ok but very restrictive. 11/16/2007 9:52:31 PM |

I spent 2 minutes in 45 degree water in a 3mm short wetsuit. Rolesville's Fantasy Lake quarry past the third or fourth thermocline. 80 degrees at the surface felt like I was boiling after that. The headache went away shortly after crossing back over the first thermocline. 11/16/2007 10:49:38 PM |

so what's the difference between a diving wetsuit and one used by surfers? 11/16/2007 10:53:23 PM |
CharlesHF All American 5543 Posts user info edit post |
Diving wetsuits tend to be thicker. When you're surfing you're up out of the water a good bit of the time, right? If you're diving, you're under for awhile. Staying in 50ยบ water for a while is much different than sitting on a surfboard out of the water. 11/16/2007 11:05:56 PM |

ok that's what i figured. didn't know if surf wetsuits were "sleeker" or somethin 11/16/2007 11:06:57 PM |

The wetsuits I use to wear when i use to surf tended to be a looser fit that the one's i use to dive with. 11/16/2007 11:08:06 PM |

If your wetsuit isn't clinging to your skin, it isn't going to keep you warm. Having loose spots where you can have water transfer doesn't do anything to keep you warm. 11/16/2007 11:13:38 PM |

Tested the new wet suit out last weekend in 48 degree water, and i was warm surprisingly.
