Can I hook my computer to the xbox360 with a cat5 cable - and use my computer's wireless internet connection to get on xbox live?

probably will work but only one will connect to the internet at one time unless you have a router, and then there is no sense in this.

i have a router - i just don't have a wireless network adapter for my xbox 360

run a cat5 straight from your router to your xbox, that is how i have mine.

oh ok, well i don;t know what to tell you brotha besides just unplug you internet from your pc and use it for xboxlive when you want to play until you find a practical solution, thats what i did when i was broke and only had the twc modem.

Yea, you can, you just have to bridge the connections.
hold CONTROL (CTRL) and click on the wired connection, then click on the wireless connection (in Network Connections), right-click wireless connections and click on Bridge.
