I'm writing this proposal for one of my classes on giving students the option to buy student season tickets to both football and basketball games. Many other universities offer their students this option and it is pretty affordable (I think Va Tech sells season ticket to students for under $65 dollars). Also it would make sure that those who want tickets to the games will not get left behind by the lottery system, ensure high attendance at events (if you pay for a ticket, you're going to show up) and raise money for the university. Of course the lottery system will still be there for those who don't want to spend the money, this is just an option for those who want to buy season tickets.

Is there enough interest from students in buying season tickets? Are there any objections to letting students purchase season tickets?

even if you went to selling season tickets, there would be another problem with the lottery in who gets seats where in the arena for bball, clearly football doesnt matter since its GA, but bball would cause problems.

This could work, both for football and basketball...PSU does it for football. The PSU football tickets are quite expensive ($200 for the season) and there isn't an option for single game tickets however, how they issue out the seats could be done in the same way here. They have freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior sections (senior section having the best seats, etc). You buy the season tickets which isn't a seat to the game, but rather a voucher. The tickets are sold through ticketmaster, so there's no waiting in line at the box office, which was a problem when I was at State. The day of the game you get in line where they check your ID, take your voucher and they hand out the assigned seats. The people who want the best seats for their section come earlier and those that really don't, come later. It works out pretty well and those that really want to come to every game can. I'm not sure how you could aliquot single games along with season tickets but I'm sure someone can come up with something. maybe sell the single games if the season tickets don't sell out.

ive learned over 4 years that if you so much as CARE to try and get tickets, you will get tickets. this is how i've gotten tickets to every event in my time here. if you dont get them in the lottery, try elsewhere, ask around, join the WPC.

even if you dont go to watch our volleyball team set the record for consecutive ACC loses, you can still go to the WPC office and pick up extra tickets that people dont get up at the buttcrack of dawn to go get.


so, my advice: Join the SWPC, and then enter your name in every lottery. If you cant get tickets this way, you got me...

Agreed^. I remember being a freshman and wanting to go to the Duke basketball game so bad. I waited in line for vouchers and came up short. So I got on the wolfweb and looked for vouchers with the same first 3 numbers and got the 4th number by lining it up with my computer printer.....and ended up getting mid court 2nd row! Best and only fraud of my life, hahaha.....I just looked though my past posts and saw where I came on here lookin' for vouchers.....ahh those were the days.

UGA does this and it's pretty fucking solid. Albeit they do it for football, and they are just a bit more rabid about it, it would still work wonders for NCSU imho. I'd be more than happy paying for guaranteed tickets, especially if there were a few other perks involved.

they do this shit at alabama fb games and it's become a fucking business to sell student tickets off to the highest bidder

While I never liked coming up short on vouchers or in the lottery, I also wouldn't like not having a chance at all at getting a ticket if I couldn't afford the price of season tickets. It's nice to think that students could set the price at something reasonable, but in the end the university will set it at whatever they feel like students will pay, which could end up being a lot more expensive than many people can afford.

Although we pay fees to cover the tickets anyhow, this is possible for many kids who couldn't afford it otherwise since standard student aid packages cover student fees (at least as far as I know)...setting the tickets in their own sphere means that that financial aid wouldnt be able to cover the cost of the tickets, and while life may be great for all the kids who have the money at the window where season tickets are available for, you'd be excluding a lot of people.

I dunno if you've thought of this possibility as well....but the student tickets system now works great at keeping the sections filled because students are penalized if they get tickets they're not going to use....I don't know how the school would logically enforce a penalty on unused tickets that students paid for (if they did, you'd see the same ridiculous student-scalping system you see at a lot of schools)....like somebody said earlier...if it ain't broke, don't fix it
