garmin nuvi all the way.

http://blackfriday.gottadeal.com/sales.php?action=search&searchquery=nuvi

i have the 360, i bought my realtor the 660 which has a bigger screen and both are worth their weight in gold. it paid itself off in about a week. i couldn't live without the thing.

http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/02/garmin-n-vi-360-reviewed/

it was $900 at launch and you can get it for $299 black friday or $330 on amazon with no hassle.

are you unfamiliar with amazon and how it works?

they have multiple sellers selling the same thing for different prices.

if you look on your right side, they have other sellers and the yellow button with "add to cart".

try that with the one next to amazon.com garmin nuvi.

[Edited on November 21, 2007 at 6:26 PM. Reason : unless you want to pay $388 or whatever the next person is offering.]

The 650 looks nice. I like the larger screen. Are there any other major differences between this on and the 360?

the screen and traffic monitoring. that's it.

the screen really is nice, but if you have decent eyes, i think you'd be fine with the 360 and saving $100. that's what i have and i've used both extensively. the 360 is also more "mobile" and you can use it as an mp3 player if you detach it from the dash mount. it will fit in your pocket pretty easily (most people have ipods though so that doesn't matter).

i'm very partial to garmin nuvi's although i caved and bought my girlfriend a garmin streetpilot to save $80 (she doesn't need bluetooth anyway).

^^Because they charge 3 times more for a product with the same features, so they can use that money to create hype and get more mindless drones to buy their products?

Seriously, I have never been able to understand where they get away charging so much for their products. They're simply not worth the extra money you pay for them. Granted, the prices have came down a little in the past year or so, so now I'd say buying a garmon is no longer retarded, I'd downgrade my opinion to financially irresponsible.

if someone paid retail price ($900+) for a nuvi 360...i agree with you, but in my opinion it is unbeatable for around $300.

bluetooth is good, but the speaker isn't loud enough and if your car is noisy, it's worthless.

sd card reader is nice.

I have a Garmin aviation GPS and a Tom-Tom car gps...they're both good, but Garmin is my favorite out of all the ones I've used. Maybe not the best bang for the buck, but i do think they are the best.

The Mio is hands down, the best GPS for the price. Aside from being popular, I have still never had anyone be able to tell me why garmins cost 3 times as much. I honestly don't understand it.

^^It's not the same one linked above. The one at pep boys is the C220, which has very little internal storage, so it requires an SD card, a screen that is not nearly as bright, and it doesn't have text to speech. It's basically the lowest of the low end (and no longer being manufactured anymore) which is why it's so cheap. Plus everything I read about the rebate reliability of pep boys said they were horrible.

^Anyone who has ever bought a garmin streetpilot does not get to have an opinion on what constitutes a good looking gps unit.

You're right the Garmin does cost more than the Mio. I assume that's what you meant when you used the > signs.

I'll agree with you that that first one you posted looks nice. Not three times the cost nice, but it is slick.

However if you're trying to say that second one looks better than the Mio, you really have been drinking too much kool-aid.

I like how you picked the one picture that showed the streetpilot head on, so you couldn't see the massive bulk of the thing.

You mean to tell me that you can look at this enormous monstrosity and then have the balls to call the Mio hideous? Wow.

something about the mio just looks awkward to me (it may just be me or personal preference though). the streetpilot mounted in the car looks fine, obviously it's not small and portable like the nuvi or mio though.

It's probably that the Garmin interface looks alot nicer. Currently, the Garmin 650 is twice the price of a mio. It's widescreen, very sleek, and performs excellently. The extra real estate comes in very handy when using the keyboard. The UI is much nicer than the mio in my opinion. It has an audio out and can play mp3s. It's not great, but it's not bad either if you have a port in your car.

I think the Mio is great for its price point, but I think the garmin has alot more polish. Is it worth 150 dollars? I dunno. Maybe not, but it definitely has a cool factor to it.

I bought a Magellan Maestro 4250 today, loving it. I tried out the Garmins as well, but ended up liking the interface and graphisc of the Magellan better.

Best Buy and Circuit City has them on demo so you can try out all the ones and make up your mind. Trust me, it's worth a trip... I did plenty of research online reading reviews and shit, but trying them first person really makes a huge difference in your impression of the units and features.

Initially I was interested in the new line of GPS by Navigon, but after trying one out at Best Buy, I stayed away from Navigon, their touchscreen was very unresponsive. Magellan for me had the cleanest interface and really fast CPU for recalculating routes.

gah, not this argument again lol... it's worth that price. are there better deals out there if money is of that much concern? Probably. It's just what I have and having used about 4 different models from other mfg's it is the one I prefer.

Maybe now you're staring to see my frustration? You people keep recommending these things that are priced at 2-3 times as much as the competition and the only reasoning you can give is that they're better because they're garmin.

Quote :
"it's worth that price"

Why? because you said so? They don't have any features that can't be found in other units for 40% of the price? What exactly makes them worth the price? I would agree they are some of the best looking units out there. I can see that being worth an extra 10, maybe 15 percent price hike. Certainly not worth 250% more though.

Quote :
"are there better deals out there if money is of that much concern? Probably. "

There's no probably about it. And for me, it's not that money is a concern. If someone really could tell me how it's that much better, I wouldn't have a problem with people wanting the best. But when all you can come up with is the interface is slightly easier to navigate through...That's worth an extra $200?

^Heh, I like how Mios aren't even on that chart. What is it with everyone trying to convince people so adamantly that if you're not spending $400 on something, you're getting a piece of crap. No wonder Garmins are so expensive. People are just so used to spending so much money, they have this idea that you get what you pay for, and that's really not the case anymore, not to the extent that they would have you believe.

<3 Consumer Reports

I have the GPS that's built-in to my car, but I wouldn't mind having something to carry around with me, and something that I could put different data in. I know Garmin makes some GPS for being hikers, with trails and topo maps. Do any of these little handhelds allow you to use different maps than the street maps?

I like Garmin, but that thing looks a little bulky compared to the other ones.

What's your beef against Garmin? I've never used one, but when it gets high ratings ratings on consumer reports and outrates the Mio on Amazon and CNET it's hard to not make it my top choice thus far.
