sorry, other threads are older than 3 months old..

I'm finally giving in and getting an mp3 player. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm looking for a 4gb with FM tuner, hopefully under $150. I don't need the video, wifi, picture crap, but i know most of them have it now.

I didn't see an iPods with radio, so I've been looking at Zune, Sandisk 260, and some Sony's. I was hoping for a name brand so I can get things such as exercise armbands and hopefully a FM transmitter for my car. Any tips would be appreciated

FM transmitters are easy, just plug into your heaphone jack they broadcast on a FM channel. Do you need charging while transmitting? Thats what namebrand buys you. I am very happy with a sandisk I bought a while ago. There are a couple for cheap around, checkout slickdeals.

Just today I bought a Sandisk Sansa 2gb mp3 player. It has FM radio, voice recording, MP3/Wav compatibility and is real small.

Perfect for my needs. And it was on sale at Best Buy for 34.99!

8GB sansa view would be a good choice in that range.

The sansa view can play itunes+ files and aac files ripped in itunes if you already have some music there or want to buy music off itunes+. It can also play wmv files from most major online stores.

i agree, or if you can find a sale paper for radio shack from yesterday they've got it for $99, and wal-mart or whoever will price match it. i did that last night

along this same topic, how do i go about putting tv shows i've downloaded onto a zune? is that even possible? does it need to be in a certain format, because the drag and drop won't work for say a divx file. i'm an admitted n00b when it comes to the newer generation stuff like this

Thanks for the tips...i think i'm leaning towards the Sandisk 4gb e260, on sale online at bestbuy for $99.
Have the batteries been good for you guys? Does it have its own accessories like an exercise arm band?

I use iTunes to organize my music, but most of it wasn't bought from iTunes (mostly from CDs). So as long as they are in the mp3 format, they are okay?

Thanks!

after my ipod killing 5,000 of my songs and being a complete bitch on a weekly basis i've decided to get something new

is the zune pretty good? i thought it was a bit of a joke when it came out, i don't know if it has been improved at all.

are there any other good brands to come out recently?

i'm looking for something that'll hold 30-50gigs

i don't need any crazy extra features like radio or voice recording

i guess i'll do some research after work, but i'd appreciate your e-opinions

zune is nice, good interface, beautiful screen, wireless sync'ing, i like mine a lot and i have the gen1 30gb... the nice thing is the new firmware runs on gen1 so you get all the new features on the gen2's, but the gen2's hold 80gb now

i dunno though about the 80gb $250 zune, b/c if i was spending that much i think i'd rather have the ipod touch, though they only go up to 8/16gb

those zune30's for $80 on woot a couple of weeks back would have been perfect for you...which is why i bought 3 at the time

i really like my zune...i, personally, would love to have a couple of bonus features that the hardware is capable of, but i like it as-is way better than the ipod, software included

what's the included software like? i imagine it's less obnoxious and invasive than itunes?

memory intensive but when it's closed it's less obnoxious.

hah, yeah...i originally bought the brown, and then saw the black/white ones on sale for $5 less with the free travel pack...bought 3 of those, sold my brown one and kept the black ones (one for myself, one for the gf, and one for my little brother)...i also sold my old creative mp3 player, so my zune ended up costing about $50 (or so that's how i rationalized it)...i kept the travel pack, though (i just kind of liked it...and the ear buds are a LOT better than the ones that come with the zune originally, IMO)

hey, thanks for the info. I already bought the sandisk 4gb for $95. Now another question....are the FM transmitters really as crappy as the reviews they get? I was going to settle for a cheap one (~$25 bucks), but they had horrible reviews....so i was going to splurge for a ~$50 one, but they have just as bad reviews!

and evan, yes I'm loving bowman gray! but FYI the name has officially been changed back to Wake Forest for 10 years now . Only thing is, we have class til friday! ridiculous. i may ride along at Cary for a shift hah, i miss it!

it depends. out of any friends/family members and myself, the best one by FAR that any of us have used is the DLO transpod. but i think theyre just for the ipod.

However, it is also fair to note that if your antenna is at the back of your car, any transmitter can still be hit or miss as far as strength of signal and finding a clear channel in a city with lots of radio stations.

I love it.

Transmitter seems kinda shitty....but it looks like you chose a player anyway.
