so my check engine light came on a few weeks ago and the code read out an EVAP system leak
now today, my check fuel cap light came on...do you think the two could be related?
i'm gonna get a new cap tomorrow and maybe the original check engine code i was getting was related to it? 11/25/2007 5:31:58 PM |

Oh...and this:

I could be a little nicer here, since the symptoms and the evidence seem to correlate so closely without need for further information, but just for future reference:
DO NOT FORGET TO TELL US THE FOLLOWING FUCKING THINGS: 1. FUCKING YEAR. 2. FUCKING MAKE. 3. FUCKING MODEL.
AND IF YOUR QUESTION IS ABOUT FORD EXPLORER BRAKES, MAKE SURE TO TELL US IF IT'S A GODDAM SPORT-TRAC OR A REGULAR EXPLODER. OH, AND IF IT'S 4WD. ENGINE SIZE HELPS TOO BUT NOT IN ALL CASES. AUTOMATIC? MANUAL? LEATHER SEATS? HOW ABOUT THE FUCKING COLOR? REMEMBER, KIDS, THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH FUCKING INFORMATION, UNLESS YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT YOUR MORBIDLY OBESE NEIGHBORS' FECAL OBSESSIONS.

anyway...i got a new cap today and both lights are still on...guess thats not the problem
does the engine need to cycle through a certain number of times or a certain mileage for the lights to reset, or should it be instantaneous?
any other ideas?
odbII code i got was:
P0442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)

Just for all the dumbfucks who insist on the year/make/model.........if you couldn't derive the car was OBD2 from what he asked, you need to stop trying to give help to anyone other than Vespa owners.... 11/26/2007 5:48:15 PM |

^ and for the dumbfucks who think vehicle specifics are irrelevant to proper diagnosis.... if you can't comprehend how some makes/models have different system configurations and problematic areas then you seriously need to stfu and keep your "advice" to your goddamn self
example: egr flow insufficient code on a 97 buick century with a 3.1- good chance of it being the passage in the intake from the egr valve obstructed
same code on a 97 f150 4.6 and 90% odds of it being the DPFE sensor
also, in regards to the OP- Get your MIL reset at advance/autozone and it should stay gone... those mustangs seem to be more sensitive than most to the fuel cap being loose or whatnot.
if the code comes back, then you'll need to do a thorough visual inspection of the connections/lines in the evap system and/or hook it up to a smoke machine to track down the leak

MIL is what ^ said, basically our check engine light.
tell the dudes you need the codes reset and they'll clear it with their obd2 scanner. that's it, pretty simple.
