So I've had my router replaced by TWC twice now and it is still a piece of shit. My roommates can't play 360 through it and our wireless is always dropping. I know that TWC has these specific NetGear Routers that are only made for them and you can't even get access to the firmware. So my question is would getting a different router make any difference? Also will I run into any issues with running a different router and TWC?

i have twc and a belkin router it works fine i do have to reset it every now and then though (just unplug not the full reset)

shouldn't be any difference i recommend Linksys for "It just works" performance or if you like to have advanced option access as well get a D-Link

linksys wrt54g with different firmware (i know that dd-wrt will work on v7 and v8, those are the new ones, if you can get a v1 or v2 you are gold but dont try too hard) or a buffalo model (im not sure which but some people here have good experiences with them)

i had 3 of them and they were all pieces of shit. the signal would go in and out, it would stop responding, rebooting it worked sometimes and not others.

got a buffalo model and couldn't be happier

i have a wrt54g w/ TWC and it works perfectly. its never dropped that i've noticed in 3 years and all the computers on the wireless get excellent or great signals.

I have a Belkin router, and though the brand "Belkin" connotates crappy products, it is an awesome router and I've had no trouble with it.

^^ There is a model of the 54g that does indeed suck.

I have a 1.2 54g (one of the originals) and it's rock solid stable under torrenting/gaming/whatever.

This was one that originally shipped with the linux firmware. The newer ones now can be flashed with linux, I think, but don't ship out the box that way. IF you find the wiki on DD-WRT, it tells which routers have what specs, and thus you can approximate which one is good. That's how Buffalo made their name, their router has the most memory of any other router, which means more features can be added to it from flashing. But i'd bet it's decent out the box.

I have the Linksys WRT54GS v.2.1 with the dd-wrt firmware on it and time warner. After applying dd-wrt my 360 went from moderate to open. You can boost the wireless signal strength with it and all sorts of great things. I've never dropped or anything other then the normal TWC screw ups. Just get TWC to supply you the modem and you should be set.

on the crap twc router, i added my brothers mac address and gave him the wep key and such, and it does not let him connect... >.<

he was able to use the network at home, in his place in WS, and others open networks around us...
