Seriously, a military academy-style triple option offense might work at Duke if they would just pack in their pride and try it.

If the University would actually commit to football, they can be competitive. It's not just about one person. Simply firing roof and hiring someone else isn't going to solve anything. I heard on one of the talk radio stations that academic standards for football players are more stringent than for basketball players. If that's true, that is the first thing that needs to change.

I agree. The absolute worst thing that happened to Duke was when Wake Forest won the ACC last year. It exposed their excuse for why they cannot compete in football as false.

duke was a good team when spurrier was there. it's quite dumb to say that no one can be successful at duke.

I'm a bit scared about playing them next year, to be honest.

I'd really hate NCSU to be the first ACC team they beat in however many years.

don't laugh too hard at that... if Duke decides to commit to building a program again Nutt wouldn't be a bad choice

he's floundered the last few years at Arkansas, but he did manage to rebuild a solid program out of the early-nineties wreck that it had become

Yeah, he was 6-45 and his predecessor, Carl Franks, was 7-45.

duke seriously needs to hire amato. i think it would be a perfect storm. duke players will discipline themselves and all you need in the acc is a good defense to win games.

granted, we did almost the same thing, but that's got to be unsettling to be a school that hires a coach that just got fired by a school in the same conference.

I'll agree with this, because after being there for X years and having his offense settled into the program, why not hire him as the head coach? He has the resume.

haha, maybe in that vein, Duke should hire Chan Gailey.

I think this is a distinct possibility, ONLY if Fisher is successful with is offense over the next few years.

"Jimbo Fisher to succeed Bobby Bowden? Word on the street is that Florida State will announce a contract extension for coach Bobby Bowden some time this week. The contract will not set a date specific for Bowden’s retirement. But it will, I’m hearing through the coaching grapevine, stipulate that whenever Bowden retires, offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher will become the new head coach of the Seminoles. Fisher has been courted by a number of schools with openings and this was the only way that Florida State could get him to stay put."

^^^ Chuck getting passed over for a promotion = him going somewhere else in a year or two.

That's actually a good idea for purposes of recruiting.

Chuck getting passed over is not nearly as big as Mickey Andrews getting passed over.

So duke interviewed Rod Broadway, the headcoach for Grambling.

I wonder if he got the job if he'd bring Jay Davis with him.

If Mickey Andrews wanted to be a head coach he'd of gone somewhere else years ago. He's 65 years old, which is a little late to be thinking about taking a head job somewhere IMO. He was a head coach at the Division II level back in the 70's and has been at FSU since 1984. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he retires when Bobby does.
